Abstract: A method and system (28c-28f) are provided to synchronize a digital communications device (27) with a mobile phone network system time. Previous reference times, associated with the device, are updated to the system time when the device is activated and the updated time is presented to a system user (28c). The updated time may also be used to automatically update the time associated with time-sensitive data files stored in the device's memory (28e). Finally, the user is permitted to set the system time to any desired time using a manual operation mode (28d).
