    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an antenna which can be flexibly built in a downsized wireless apparatus.SOLUTION: In a substrate antenna formed of one or more conductive traces 402 supported on a dielectric substrate 404 having a predetermined thickness, appropriate dimensions are selected for lengths and widths of the traces based on the wavelength of interest, connecting elements, and space allocated. The supporting substrate 404 in conjunction with the device in which the antenna is used is mounted so as to be offset from a ground plane 502 and generally perpendicular to the ground plane 502. The trace 402 is electrically connected to a conductive pad at one end, and a signal feed device 410 for the antenna is coupled to the conductive pad.

    SOLUTION: A substrate antenna (400) includes one or more conductive traces (402) supported on a dielectric substrate (404) having a predetermined thickness. Appropriate dimensions are selected for the lengths and widths of traces, based on the wavelength of interest, connecting elements, and space allocated. The supporting substrate (404) is mounted offset from and generally perpendicular to the ground plane (502) associated with the device with which the antenna is being used. The trace is electrically connected to a conductive pad (408) on one end. A signal feed (410) for the antenna is coupled to the conductive pad (408).

    Abstract: This disclosure is directed toward a wireless device configured to support a plurality of wireless protocols. More specifically, the wireless device includes signal processing components that can be used in more than one communication mode. Accordingly, distinct components conventionally used in a wireless device that supports a plurality of protocols may be eliminated in favor of one or more common components that can be used in the different communication modes. In one example, an analog filter is used to filter baseband signals associated with a first protocol and a second protocol. A digital filter can then be used to perform additional filtering on digital baseband signals associated with the second protocol. By using a common analog filter for analog filtering of baseband signals associated with different protocols, the architecture and design of a wireless device can be simplified.
