Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system and a method for independently downloading a main program and optional features into a set of storage locations of a wireless communication device. SOLUTION: A memory 123 is used to store the main program and a set of selected optional features 124. An identification element associated with one in the set of selected optional features enables the main program to interact with the one in the set of selected optional features 124-130. A programmer 122 programs the selected optional feature programs 124-130 into a memory 116 by locating a storage location in the memory 116. An indicator indicates that the set of selectable optional features has been stored in the memory. COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wireless communication device for automatically and seamlessly switching to an alternate, available system when it is unable to complete a call origination attempt without requiring a user to take any affirmative actions to select the alternate system. SOLUTION: Thie wireless communication device stores a list of preferred communication systems. The mobile station attempts to acquire one of these preferred communication systems (302) upon failure of the reverse link (300). When it is not successful (304), the mobile station attempts to acquire a communication system most likely to provide service (306). When it is also not successful (308), the mobile station re-attempts acquisition of the current communication system. The mobile station also re-attempts acquisition with one of the preferred communication systems after a predetermined idle time (310). COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT

Abstract:
An in-bound call directed telephone station, and a method, which may be embodied in a computer readable medium, directs a telephone station based on an in-bound call. The inbound directed telephone station includes means for providing a handset having a call receiver and a call originator, means for providing a first memory location, coupled to the call receiver, and means for providing a comparator coupled to the first memory location and to the call receiver. Upon receipt of an inbound call by the call receiver and before the call receiver answers the in-bound call, the comparator compares an identifier of the in-bound call to an identifier list in the first memory location and terminates receipt of the in-bound call by the call receiver. Upon locating a match between the identifier list and the identifier of the in-bound call, the comparator automatically activates the call originator to perform a function associated with the in-bound call identifier. The method includes receiving a call at the telephone, activating an identification system based on the receiving, which identification system identifies an origination of an in-bound communication, associating a function with the in-bound communication based on the origination, terminating the in-bound communication after the activating of the identification system and before answering the in-bound call, and automatically performing, by the telephone, of the function associated with the in-bound communication.
Abstract:
A system and method (100) for independently downloading a main program and optional features (124) into a set of storage locations (114) of a wireless communication device (102) uses a memory (123) to store the main program and a set of selected optional features (124). An identification element (160) associated with one in the set of selected optional features (162) enables the main program (134) to interact with the one in the set of selected optional features (124-130). A programmer (not shown) programs the selected optional feature programs (124-130) into the memory (116) by locating a storage location in the memory (116). An indicator indicates when the set of selected optional features has been stored in the memory. The memory can further contain a linking element and a pointer (162-166) to identify storage locations in the memory. The invention allows the set of selected optional features to be stored after the main program is stored in the memory.

Abstract:
A method for adjusting the gain of a receive circuit, thereby improving a receiver's immunity to interference. The circuit has an LNA which amplifies the received signal (1702). The receive signal power is controlled by enabling or disabling the LNA in response to the measured received signal power (1704). The received power level is periodically compared to a threshold (1704). When the received power level is greater than the threshold, the LNA is disabled (1706). The LNA is re-enabled when the received power level is less than the threshold (1708), and there are no significant intermodulation components detected (1710). The intermodulation components are detected by briefly enabling the LNA and detecting the resultant change in the measured signal power (1710). If the detected change is more than a predetermined amount, then there are significant intermodulation components present, and the LNA is not re-enabled (1706). Otherwise, there are not significant intermodulation components present, and the LNA is re-enabled (1702).

Abstract:
A wireless communication device (100) having an accessory port (136) and a processor (114) to detect when an external accessory (201) is coupled to the accessory port, and then identify the type of external accessory. A data lin e (208) connects the external accessory to the wireless communication device, the data line being a portion of a pulse code modulation (PCM) port in the accessory port. The processor senses activity on this data line, including a signal transmitted by the external accessory indicative of when the external accessory is coupled to the wireless communication device. The processor further senses identification data associated with the external accessory, with the identification data including an identification code of the externa l accessory. The processor generates a clock signal, and the external accessor y transmits the identification data to the wireless communication device over the data line in response to the clock signal. In this fashion, the processo r repeatedly senses the transmitted identification data. An input line in the accessory port carries a voltage indicative of whether the external accessor y supplies external power to the wireless communication device. The identification code transmitted by the external accessory is compared to stored codes corresponding to a plurality of external accessories to identif y the external accessory coupled to the wireless communication device.
