PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for performing enhanced file distribution in multicast communication or broadcast communication allowing more efficient download and processing of a broadcast file. SOLUTION: In a communication system providing broadcast services, files for broadcast are accessible by users. The content of the broadcast files and the content of file attributes required to process the broadcast files are separately sent. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a more effective scheme for higher-quality broadcasting and a scheme for much more economical utilization of a communication resource, in a method and an apparatus for performing enhanced file distribution in a multicast and a broadcast. SOLUTION: A user can access a file for the broadcast in a communication system for providing a broadcast service. Contents of the file for the broadcast, which are required to process the broadcast file, are differently transmitted from those of file attributes. Abstract:
Methods and apparatus for determining the quality of service of a network are disclosed. A disclosed methodology for determining quality of service for a network includes determining at least two metrics reflective of network parameters in at least two different protocol layers of the communication network. The metrics are then compared with respective threshold values, and quality of service for the network is determined based on the comparison of the metrics with the respective threshold values. Corresponding apparatus executing the methodology are also disclosed.
Abstract:
The disclosure is directed to a mobile communication device that is capable of accessing different types of networks such as a circuit-switched network and a packet-switched network. While communicating over the packet-switched network, the device negotiates a sleep interval that is longer than the ordinary interval available using the packet-switched network. In this manner, the device wakes less frequently and thereby conservers power. A buffering system is included so that data directed towards the device while it is asleep may be buffered for later delivery when the device awakens.

The disclosure is directed to an access terminal, and method for selecting an access point for handing off the access terminal. The access terminal may include a processor. The processor may be configured to access a list access points and select one of the access points on the list based on the current traffic state of the access terminal.

The disclosure is directed to a mobile communication device that is capable of accessing different types of networks such as a circuit-switched network, or any cellular network, and a packet-switched network. During hand-over from the first network to the second network, the sender of packets/frames expands or compresses the packet-switched packets using well-known time-warping techniques. At the receiver end, the received time-warped packets and frames from the second network are appropriately selected so that no unwanted artifacts are introduced during playback.
