Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide methods and apparatus for communication of notifications.SOLUTION: A method comprises sending a primary message including data indicating notification status information, and sending notification messages apart from the primary message addressed to specific groups of devices. A method for obtaining notifications in a device from a server includes monitoring the primary message including current notification status information, comparing the current notification status information with a previous notification status information to determine if a change in notification status information has occurred, and obtaining addressed notification status information when a change in the notification status information has been determined. By using a primary message with abbreviated information to communicate whether changes to notification status information have occurred without the need for further processing and/or addressed notification messages, system resources can be conserved.
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide methods and systems for resizing multimedia content on the basis of quality and rate information.SOLUTION: Encoder modules associate their respective segments of data with quality and rate information and send at least the quality and rate information to a multiplex module. The multiplex module determines whether the segments of data that encoder modules desire to include in the current superframe fit within the available bandwidth of a transmission channel. If the multiplex module determines the plurality of segments of data do not fit within the available bandwidth, the multiplex module selects the segments to be resized on the basis of the quality and rate information.
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide apparatus and methods for the communication of system state information change to wireless devices in a content server network in a resource and power efficient manner.SOLUTION: A method for conveying system state information to a wireless device includes sending a primary message including first information configured to communicate a first current system state to the wireless device, and then sending second information set usable by the wireless device to update system state information. By summarizing or abbreviating the first information, a receiving device can easily compare to the past system states to determine whether further processing, such as processing of the second information, is needed, thereby affording the conservation of processing and power resources of a receiving device. Corresponding apparatus is also disclosed.
Abstract:
TECHNIQUES FOR SENDING AND RECEIVING BROADCAST INFORMATION ARE DESCRIBED. IN AN ASPECT, BROADCAST METADATA MAY BE GENERATED FOR BROADCAST INFORMATION AND MAY INCLUDE LOCATION AND TIME CRITERIA USED BY TERMINALS TO FILTER THE BROADCAST INFORMATION. EACH LOCATION AND TIME CRITERION MAY INCLUDE (I) A LOCATION CRITERION GIVEN BY A TARGET LOCATION AND A PRESENCE OR ABSENCE REQUIREMENT AND (II) A TIME CRITERION GIVEN BY A TIME PERIOD IN WHICH THE LOCATION CRITERION APPLIES. A TERMINAL MAY RECEIVE (412) THE BROADCAST METADATA PRIOR TO OR WITH THE BROADCAST INFORMATION, OBTAIN (414) LOCATION AND TIME CRITERIA FROM THE BROADCAST METADATA, AND FILTER (416) THE BROADCAST INFORMATION BASED ON THE LOCATION AND TIME CRITERIA. THE TERMINAL (110) MAY EVALUATE EACH LOCATION AND TIME CRITERION BY DETERMINING ITS LOCATION WITHIN A SPECIFIED TIME PERIOD AND DETERMINING WHETHER ITS LOCATION IS WITHIN OR OUTSIDE A SPECIFIED TARGET LOCATION, AS INDICATED BY THE PRESENCE OR ABSENCE REQUIREMENT.
A terminal may receive the broadcast metadata prior to or with the broadcast information, obtain location and time criteria from the broadcast metadata, and filter the broadcast information based on the location and time criteria. The terminal may evaluate each location and time criterion by determining its location within a specified time period and determining whether its location is within or outside a specified target location, as indicated by the presence or absence requirement.
