Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of paging a group of access terminals in a wireless communications system.SOLUTION: A set of paging indicator (PI) bits within a quick paging channel (QPCH) cycle is configured in order to page a group of access terminals. An access terminal within the group receives the QPCH cycle, and evaluates the PI bits in order to determine whether a unicast page and/or group page is present. A transport-layer message for transmission to at least one access terminal is generated, and an application-layer portion of the transport-layer message is modified, to configure the transport-layer message. An access terminal receives the message and extracts the application-layer portion.
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform selective allocation of dedicated channel (DCH) resources within a wireless communications system.SOLUTION: A UE determines transmission of a message (e.g., an alert message, a call initiation message, etc.). On the basis of the type of the message to be transmitted, the UE selectively transmits supplemental data configured to prompt an access network to transition the UE to a dedicated channel state (DCS). In another embodiment, an application server configured to arbitrate communication sessions between UEs receives a message for transmission to a target UE. On the basis of the type of the message to be transmitted to the target UE, the application server selectively transmits, to a serving access network of the target UE, supplemental data configured to prompt the serving access network to transition the target UE to the DCS.

An access terminal within the group receives the QPCH cycle, and evaluates the PI bits to determine whether a unicast page and/or group page is present. In addition, less than all time slots are selected in one or more control channel cycles of a downlink control channel, and a page message is configured to convey the selected time slots to an access terminal. The access terminal receives the configured page message and decodes information only within the selected time slots.
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide management of session information in a wireless communications system.SOLUTION: In an embodiment, a network communication entity (NCE) determines that an access terminal has re-entered a serving area of an access network, and also determines whether a given period of time, associated with a previous session of the access terminal in the serving area, has expired. If the NCE determines the given period of time has not expired, the NCE re-activates session information associated with the previous session, including re-activation of an identifier that uniquely identifies the access terminal within the serving area. If the access terminal had a session in another serving area before re-entering the serving area, the NCE stores the session information for the access terminal in the another serving area in association with a period of time indicative of a duration during which the session information continues to be valid within the another serving area.
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To support a multimedia application on the basis of network zone recognition.SOLUTION: User equipment (UE) determines whether a current serving network is associated with a network support zone of a given type. Network support zones are characterized by different levels of support for a multimedia client application configured to manage server-arbitrated communication sessions at the UE. The UE loads and executes zone-specific network procedures for supporting the multimedia client application within the network support zone of the given type. In another embodiment, an application server determines whether the current serving network of the UE is associated with the network support zone of the given type. The server selects zone-specific network parameters and/or features on the basis of the determination, for interaction.
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide multicasting within a wireless communications system.SOLUTION: Upon receiving a multicast session registration message and a traffic channel request from at least one access terminal, an access network transmits multicast messages on a downlink shared channel. In another example, the access network can determine a channel type for supporting a multicast session, can indicate the channel type selection to the at least one access terminal in an announce message, and can transmit the multicast messages on the selected channel type. The at least one access terminal receives the announce message, receives a traffic channel assignment, registers to the multicast session, and monitors the downlink shared channel for the multicast messages.
Abstract:
Methods systems and devices for separating signaling data and traffic data onto separate carriers for wireless communications systems are provided. Some embodiments utilize flexible bandwidth that may utilize portions of spectrum that may not be big enough to fit a normal waveform through utilizing flexible waveforms. Flexible bandwidth systems may lead to reduced data rate on the signaling or other channels. Separating the signaling and the data traffic into different flexible bandwidth carriers so that assigned resources can be customized to different traffic patterns may address this issue. In some embodiments the signaling data is received and/or transmitted over a first carrier separate from any other traffic data. For example the signaling data may be received and/or transmitted over the first band carrier without any other traffic data. The traffic data and/or network data associated with the signaling data may be received and/or transmitted over a separate second carrier.
