Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of selective state transition of user equipment (UE) in a wireless communications system.SOLUTION: An application server receives 400A from originating user equipment (UE) a call message that is configured to request initiation of a communication session to be arbitrated by the application server, between the originating UE and at least one piece of target UE. The application server selectively sends 410A, 425A, in response to the call message, dummy data to a serving access network of given UE associated with the communication session in order to facilitate 405A, 420A a transition of the given UE to a dedicated-channel state. The application server can selectively send the dummy data on the basis of a size of the call message and/or a type of the communication session.
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform selective allocation of dedicated channel (DCH) resources within a wireless communications system.SOLUTION: A UE determines transmission of a message (e.g., an alert message, a call initiation message, etc.). On the basis of the type of the message to be transmitted, the UE selectively transmits supplemental data configured to prompt an access network to transition the UE to a dedicated channel state (DCS). In another embodiment, an application server configured to arbitrate communication sessions between UEs receives a message for transmission to a target UE. On the basis of the type of the message to be transmitted to the target UE, the application server selectively transmits, to a serving access network of the target UE, supplemental data configured to prompt the serving access network to transition the target UE to the DCS.
Abstract:
The application relates to group communications over multimedia broadcast-multicast services MBMS. E-MBMS services can be used to distribute multicast data to groups and could be useful in group com¬ munication systems. However, in conventional E-MBMS services, the time to establish a new flow is on the order of 10 seconds. This laten¬ cy is unacceptable for high performance group communication sys¬ tems, such as a push to talk system that requires less than 1 second from the call initiation from the originator to the granting of the floor to at least one group member. This problem is solved in that a multi¬ cast flow is pre-reserved for the media flow in such a way that it can be quickly established. Furthermore, another multicast flow, which is "always-on", is used as a sort of application layer paging flow in order to indicate activity on the media flow. The user equipment monitors the paging flow (Multicast flow#l) regarding activity of a group com¬ munication (Call Announcement) and upon receipt of a call announce message, switches to the corresponding media flow (Multicast flow #2).
Abstract:
The connection management entity apparatus determines a set of modems within coverage of a particular area. Each modem of the set of modems is associated with a particular aircraft and one carrier of a plurality of carriers. The apparatus allocates subsets of modems to each eNB of a set of eNBs. The allocation allows each eNB to communicate with the allocated subset of modems. Each eNB operates on a different carrier. The apparatus may be a eNB. The eNB determines a set of modems within coverage of the eNB. The set of modems is associated with one carrier of a plurality of carriers. The eNB operates on the one carrier. Each modem in the set of modems is associated with a different aircraft. The eNB sends information indicating the set of modems and receives an allocation of a second set of modems in response to the sent information.

Abstract:
An access terminal selects less than all of a plurality of flows associated with a given multicast session, arid sends a call registration message including reference to the selected less than all flows to an access network to request registration to each of the plurality of flows. The access network receives the call registration message, and interprets the call registration message as requesting registration to each of the plurality of flows associated with the given multicast session. The access network transmits a scheduling message to a group of access terminals that advertises less than all of a plurality of flows associated with the given multicast session. Access terminals in the group that receive the scheduling message interpret the scheduling message as if each of the plurality of flows is advertised as carried upon a downlink channel.
