Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a method and apparatus for providing broadcast messages in a communication network. SOLUTION: The present invention is a novel and improved method for providing broadcast short message services (SMS) in a communication network. It is also a method and apparatus that performs the successful transmission of the broadcast message while minimizing the effect caused by providing the short messaging service on overall system capacity. Messages to be broadcast to a group of users are provided, by broadcast page generator (20), to a broadcast message buffer (24). The timing of the message transmission is controlled by a page transmission controller (34), and the message is modulated on to an appropriate channel by modulator (26). COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI

SOLUTION: It is an objective of the present invention to provide a method and apparatus that insures the successful transmission of the broadcast message while minimizing the impact of providing the short message service on overall system capacity. Messages to be broadcasted to a group of users are provided by a broadcast page generator (20) to a broadcast message buffer (24). The timing of the message transmissions is controlled by a page transmit controller (34), and the message is then modulated on to an appropriate channel by a modulator (26). Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and apparatus for selecting a communication system best suited to the user's needs. SOLUTION: The present invention relates to a method and apparatus for selecting a communication system in accordance with the geographic region in which the subscriber station is located. Upon successful acquisition, the subscriber station examines the received system identification information to determine its geographical region. The subscriber station then determines whether or not the acquired system is the most desirable system for use in the geographical region. If it is the most desirable system for use in the geographical region, the subscriber station provides service using the acquired system. If it is not the most desirable system for use in the geographical region, the subscriber station attempts to acquire a more desirable system. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a system to transmit a broadcast message suitably while minimizing an impact of offering a short message on an entire system capacity in a small message service (SMS) broadcasted in a communication network. SOLUTION: A message broadcasted to a user group is provided to a broadcast message buffer by a broadcast page generator. The timing of a message transmission is controlled by a page transmission controller. Then, the message is modulated on an appropriate channel by a modulator. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device offering a broadcasting message in a communication network. SOLUTION: This is a new and improved method to provide a short message service (SMS) broadcasting in the communication network. The object is to provide a method and a device which well transmit a broadcasting message keeping an effect of sending a short messages in a total system capacity in the minimum. Messages broadcasted to an user group are sent to a broadcasting message buffer (24) by a broadcasting page generator (20). Timing of the message transmission is controlled by a page transmission controller (34). Afterwards, the messages are modulated on an appropriate channel by a modulator (26). COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
Abstract:
A system for providing a dynamic multi-mode service acquisition capability to a subscriber station is provided. The subscriber station is capable of operating in two or more modes of operation. A time to scan condition is indicated while the subscriber station is operating in a current mode of operation having active and inactive states. Responsive thereto, the system stores state information for the current mode of operation, and attempts at least a partial acquisition of communications services in accordance with another mode of operation. The at least partial acquisition attempt is scheduled to be initiated while the subscriber station is operating in the inactive state in the current mode of operation, and completed before the subscriber station transitions back to the active state in the current mode of operation. If the acquisition attempt is successful, the subscriber station transitions to the new mode of operation, maintaining appropriate registration. If unsuccessful, the subscriber station uses the stored state information to resume operating in the current mode of operation.

Abstract:
Microprocessor resource utilization by a searching process are controlled by determining a search window size, accessing a lookup table to determine an integration interval and a number of non-coherent passes, and commanding a searching process to execute a multipath search according to these parameters. The lookup table comprises a plurality of integration intervals and corresponding number of non-coherent passes indexed according to search window such that an execution duration of the search process remains nominally constant over a variety of search window sizes.
Abstract:
In a receiver having a plurality of demodulation elements, a method of assigning the plurality of demodulation element so a set of available signals. A first method emphasizes diversity of transmitting devices so that power control is optimal. A second method emphasizes the maximum signal strength available to produce aggregate maximum signal strength. Both methods control the number of reassignments so that excessive data is not lost during the reassignment process. The apparatus comprises the plurality of demodulation elements, at least one searcher element, and a controller.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for selecting a communication system in accordance with the geographic region in which the subscriber station is located is described. Upon successful acquisition, a system determination processor examines the received system identification information and compares it with system identification information stored in a universal system table to determine the geographical region of the identified communication system. The system determination processor then determines whether the acquired system is the most desirable system for use in the geographical region. If it is the most desirable system for use in the geographical region, the system determination processor selects the acquired system for providing service. If it is not the most desirable system for use in the geographical region, the subscriber station attempts to acquire a more desirable system using information from the universal system table.
