The wireless device (100) further includes means for receiving a signal relating to an operating condition of the wireless device (100) that influences operation of the personal health module (104), means for determining whether the operating condition is outside an operating range, and means for disabling components of the wireless device (100). If it is determined that the operating condition is outside the operating range, one or more components of the wireless device (100) will be disabled until the operating condition is within the operating range.

Abstract: Techniques for adjusting one or more antenna parameters to optimize the performance of a wireless device are disclosed. In an embodiment, a variable antenna match is provided with a control signal for selecting a preferred antenna match setting. The preferred antenna match setting may correspond to the setting having a best signal quality metric. In a further embodiment, a variable antenna electrical length module is provided with a control signal for selecting a preferred antenna electrical length. Further techniques for accommodating multiple antennas are disclosed.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for RF amplification of a transmit signal within a wireless phone. The amplifier chain is composed of three parts, a pre-driver, a bypassable driver amp, and a power amp. The configuration of the amplifier chain is adjusted in real time to optimize power consumption for a given output power requirement. At low output power levels the driver amp is bypassed and the power amp is provided a low bias current. At medium output power levels the driver amp is bypassed and the power amp is biased at a moderate current. When high output power is required the driver amp is utilized and the power amp is provided a high bias current. The driver amp is shut down when in the bypassed state. The result of implementing this amplifier configuration is an increase in the efficiency of the transmit amplifier. The increase in amplifier efficiency results in increased talk times for battery powered wireless phones.

Abstract: A digital mobile TV transceiver having improved performance is integrated as a USB dongle device for wireless devices. The antenna is not readily obvious to the user as it is hidden in the swing arms and cap of the device. The extendable arms act as telescoping antenna that increase the antenna length for improved antenna performance in the frequency range of 700 to 780MHz. The antenna can swing into a position away from the body of the device, greatly improving the antenna gain performance and its radiation patterns. In addition, the antenna can be top-loaded design with dielectrics in the cap to further improve its performance. The USB transceiver comprises a USB adaptor, a retractable antenna, and a cap for protecting the USB adaptor when the antenna is retracted. The adaptor, antenna and cap lie in a plane rotatable by 360 degrees.
