Abstract: A method and apparatus of determining signal strength, regardless of the signal data rate, in a receiver receiving signals from a variable rate transmitter. The incoming signal is comprised of a series of frames. Each frame is comprised of a number of power control groups containing data. The number of the power control groups containing data within each frame is dependent on the unknown data rate. The position of the power control groups within the frame is a pseudorandom. The signal strength of an incoming signal of unknown data rate is determined based upon an active set of power control groups within a frame. The active set of power control groups contain data independent of the unknown data rate. This signal strength information may be used to indicate that the signal strength is sufficient to perform further signal processing.

Abstract: La presente invencion se refiere a un método y a un aparato para determinar la intensidad de la señal sin importar la velocidad de los datos de la señal, en un receptor que recibe señales desde un transmisor de velocidad variable. La señal que ingresa se compara con una serie de cuadros. Cada cuadro se compone de un numero de grupos de control de potencia que contiene los datos. El numero de grupos de control de potencia que contienen los datos dentro de cada depende de la potencia de datos desconocida. La posicion de los grupos de control de potencia dentro del cuadro es seudoaleatoria. La intensidad de señal de una señal que ingresa con una velocidad de datos desconocida de determina con base a una serie de activa de grupos de control de potencia dentro de un cuadro. La serie activa de grupos de control de potencia contiene datos independientes de la velocidad de datos desconocida. Esta informacion de la intensidad de la señal se puede utilizar para indicar que la intensidad de la señal es suficientemente para realizar otro procesamiento de la señal.
