Abstract: The connection between a user equipment (UE) and a base station may be authenticated in the physical layer, and the presence of an unauthorized intervening device may be identified based on predicted measurement values of downlink reference signals and the actual measurement values for the current downlink reference signals. The predicted measurement values are produced based on previous measurements of downlink reference signals that are known to be received from the base station, e.g., after upper layer initial authentication. The predicted values may be for positioning measurements, channel measurements, or velocity or direction of travel measurements, or a combination thereof. A difference between the predicted and actual measurement values indicates that the previously received reference signals and the currently received reference signals are not from the same entity, and thus, an intervening entity is likely present in the communication channel performing a man in the middle or replay attack.

Abstract: Techniques for wireless communication at a communication device are described. The communication device may be a user equipment (UE) configured to transmit, to a base station, signaling indicating UE capability information. The UE may receive, from the base station, control signaling indicating a measurement gap sequence configuration based on the UE capability information. The UE may determine a measurement gap occasion based on the measurement gap sequence configuration. The measurement gap occasion may include one or more of a first measurement gap occasion associated with a first measurement gap sequence, a second measurement gap occasion associated with a second measurement gap sequence, or a combination of the first measurement gap occasion and the second measurement gap occasion. The UE may perform a set of channel measurements during the determined measurement gap occasion.

Abstract: Positioning of a UE is supported in a Radio Resource Control, RRC, Inactive state. The UE receives (802) a request for periodic or triggered location and enters (804) the RRC Inactive state. When an event is detected (806), the UE sends (808) an RRC Resume Request to a gNB that includes an indication of the event. The indication may be an event report that may include downlink positioning measurements. The gNB forwards the event report to a location server, and may later receive and return an event report acknowledgement to the UE in an RRC Release. The indication may instead trigger uplink positioning, with the base station sending (810) an uplink Sounding Reference Signal, SRS, configuration to the UE in an RRC Release, causing the UE to transmit uplink SRS signals to be measured by gNBs. For uplink related position methods like RTT, the gNB can receive both types of indication.

Abstract: A method of user equipment (UE) positioning includes receiving positioning assistance data associated with a Transmission Reception Point (TRP), such as an expected Reference Signal Time difference (RSTD) between a reference cell and the TRP. The method also includes capturing, based on at least the expected RSTD, a first portion of reference signals from the TRP, where, at the UE, the first portion of the reference signals does not overlap in time with non-reference signals from the reference cell. The method further includes determining a first Time of Arrival (TOA) of the reference signals from the TRP based on the first portion of the reference signals.

Abstract: Disclosed are techniques related to wireless communication system in which a network node (e.g., a base station, gNB, etc.) may be allowed to puncture a reference signal (RS) to deliver high priority data (e.g., URLLC data) to a user equipment (UE) that is not currently being served by the network node. The RS may comprise a puncturable subset and an unpuncturable subset. The puncturable subset may comprise resources of the RS that are allowed to be punctured, and the unpuncturable subset may comprise resources of the RS that are prohibited from being punctured. The network node may transmit the RS such that unpuncturable subset indicates whether or not the puncturable subset of the RS has or has not been punctured. In this way, the network node can quickly inform whether or not the RS has been punctured to carry high priority data.

In an aspect, a user equipment (UE) operating in discontinuous reception (DRX) mode receives a DRX configuration, receives a reference signal resource configuration, determines, at least based on the DRX configuration and the reference signal resource configuration, whether an overlap exists between a reference signal occasion of a plurality of reference signal occasions of the reference signal resource configuration and an active time of the DRX configuration, receives or transmits at least based on a determined overlap, at least a first reference signal in the reference signal occasion, and receives or transmits, while remaining in an active state of the DRX configuration, at least based on the determined overlap, at least a second reference signal in remaining reference signal occasions of the plurality of reference signal occasions after expiration of the active time.

Abstract: Aspects of the disclosure are related to a method, apparatus and system for adjusting a processing bandwidth or frequency domain buffer decimation associated with reference signals, for example, positioning reference signals (PRS). By reducing the number of, for example, resource blocks and/or resource elements to be processed, the power involved in processing the reference signal can be reduced. Hence, in some implementations, aspects of the disclosure can enable low-power low-bandwidth devices, such as NarrowBand Internet of Things (IoT) (NBIoT), to decode reference signals such as PRS.
