    Abstract: An example method of encoding or decoding video data includes determining a motion vector for a block of video data using a decoder side motion vector derivation process that includes performing an iterative search process, wherein performing the iterative search process includes: determining a minimum cost through a previous search iteration; updating an overall minimum cost through a current search iteration; and terminating the iterative search process early based on a comparison of the minimum cost through the previous search iteration and the overall minimum cost through the current search iteration; and encoding or decoding the block of video data using the motion vector.

    Abstract: A method of encoding or decoding video data comprises: for each respective intra prediction mode of a plurality of intra prediction modes in a most-probable mode (MPM) list: generating, based on reference samples for a template region and using the respective intra prediction mode, prediction samples for the template region; and determining a cost for the respective intra prediction mode; determining a first intra prediction mode and a second intra prediction mode in the MPM list having lowest costs; determining a preliminary prediction block for the first intra prediction mode and a preliminary prediction block for the second intra prediction mode; generating a prediction block based on a fusion of the preliminary prediction blocks weighted according to a weight for the first intra prediction mode and a weight for the second intra prediction mode.

    Abstract: An example device for decoding video data includes a memory configured to store video data; and one or more processors configured to: decode data representing an initial motion vector for a current block of the video data, the initial motion vector having integer-motion vector difference (MVD) precision; determine a search range around a reference area identified by the initial motion vector in a reference picture; perform a template matching search process in the search range to identify a best matching region; determine error values for neighboring pixels to the best matching region; use the error values for the neighboring pixels to perform a model-based fractional-pixel motion vector refinement to derive motion vector difference values; apply at least one of the motion vector difference values to the initial motion vector to determine a refined motion vector for the current block; and decode the current block using the refined motion vector.

    Abstract: A video decoder can be configured to determine a number of allowed non-zero coefficients for a block of video data based on a size of the block; obtain a set of dequantized coefficients for the block, the set of dequantized coefficients comprising a first subset of dequantized coefficients that includes non-zero dequantized coefficients and a second subset of dequantized coefficients that includes all zero coefficients, wherein a number of coefficients in the first subset of dequantized coefficients equals the number of allowed non-zero coefficients for the block of video data; apply an inverse low-frequency non-separable transform the first subset of dequantized coefficients to determine a first intermediate subset of coefficients; and apply an inverse separable transform to the first intermediate subset of coefficients and at least a portion of the second subset of coefficients to determine a block of reconstructed residual values.

    Abstract: In one example, a device for decoding video data includes one or more processors implemented in circuitry and configured to: determine that a value for a syntax element representing a number of profile-tier-level (PTL) data structures in a video parameter set (VPS) of a bitstream is equal to a total number of output layer sets (OLSs) specified for the VPS; in response to determining that the value for the syntax element representing the number of profile-tier-level data structures in the VPS is equal to the total number of OLSs specified for the VPS, infer values for OLS PTL index values, without explicitly decoding values for the OLS PTL index values; and decode video data of one or more OLSs using corresponding PTL data structures of the PTL data structures in the VPS according to the inferred values for the OLS PTL index values.
