    Abstract: A hybrid device 102, 118, 120, implementing multiple networking technologies (e.g., wireless local area network (WLAN) technologies, powerline communication technologies, Ethernet, etc.) by means of respective interfaces 114, 116, 112, 110, can be configured to execute operations to select singleton coordinating functionality in a hybrid communication network 100. In the CAP selection stage, the hybrid device with at least a preferred device weight is configured as the CAP. In the registrar selection stage, similar operations can be executed to select the registrar. The registrar is preferrably a IEEE P1905.1 registrar. In addition to the CAP and the registrar, a standby CAP and a standby registrar may be selected. CAP 102 is coupled to network gateway 124 via a single communication medium such that it is directly connected to an external network (e.g. the Internet).
