Abstract: A technique is disclosed for alleviating problems in manually and/or electronically splicing and editing video information on a record medium utilized in recorder-reproducer systems. The technique solves the dilemma between making the edit pulse rate low enough to define color frame rate, and making the edit pulse rate high enough for rapid capstan lock up. To accomplish this, dual frequency information which may take the form of the alternation of single pulses and pulse doublets on the control track is utilized.

Abstract: There is provided a circuit for compensating for defective or missing portions of an angle modulation information signal. The angle modulation signal is simultaneously applied directly and through an attenuating delay means to a limiter. The limiting level of the limiter is such as to provide a saturated output in response to the attenuated signal from the delay means. In this manner a missing portion of the information signal directly applied to the limiter is automatically compensated by a previous portion of the information signal from the delay means.

A wide bandwidth luminance signal is applied to the signal scaling device which develops a limiting signal for a particular narrow bandwidth color difference or primary color signal. This limiting signal is mixed with its associated color difference or primary color signal by the signal mixing device. The output of the signal mixing device is a color difference or primary color signal that has amplitude values less than or equal to the amplitude values of the limit signal.

Abstract: A high definition TV signal is input 1101 and reduced in definition to the usual level 1106. Deficiencies in this signal are detected 1132 and, for those areas in which no motion is detected 1144 in the low definition signal, the address 1140 and nature 1136 of these deficiencies is incorporated into the low definition signal and transmitted 1114, 1116. At the receiver (Fig 12) the signal is received and reconstituted as a high definition signal.

Abstract: A discontinuous motion special effects generator for television is described including a memory means responsive to a television video signal for storing signals representing a television picture field and memory control means for controlling the writing and reading of the picture fields. This generator includes means for automatically providing control pulses at a rate for desired discontinuous motion. The generator further includes means coupled to the memory control means and responsive to the control pulses for writing a single picture field of video only on the occurrence of each control pulse whereby the video output changes only on the occurrence of each control pulse.
