Abstract: A high voltage protection circuit for a television receiver for sensing increases in the kinescope ultor voltage above a predetermined level and for blanking the video signals applied to the kinescope during the time the ultor voltage exceeds the predetermined level. Abstract: A high voltage protection circuit for a television receiver for rendering the picture unviewable when the kinescope ultor voltage exceeds a predetermined level. A voltage source representative of the ultor voltage is sensed and causes a switch to operate when a predetermined level is exceeded. The switch controls the operation of the vertical oscillator to collapse the raster under excessive high voltage conditions. The oscillator state also controls the video blanking circuit to cause video blanking during the alarm condition.

Abstract: There is disclosed a blanking circuit utilizing a transistor having its emitter electrode coupled to a point of reference potential and its collector electrode coupled to a point in the video amplifier. The base electrode is responsive to a signal developed only during retrace time by means of a current flowing through a discharge device associated with a deflection oscillator. The base electrode of the transistor is forward biased by this retrace signal to thereby saturate the collector to emitter path of the transistor and cause the video amplifier to produce a signal capable of blanking a kinescope employed in said receiver.
