Abstract: A digital phase comparator for essentially eliminating the dead zone in the phase correction means of a phase locked loop. The digital phase comparator is arranged to provide respective up and down output pulses to operate respective charge pumps. The up and down output pulses at all times are greater than a predetermined time duration no matter how small the phase difference between comparator input signals. A delay means is provided in the phase comparator logic, which delay means substantially determines such predetermined time duration. The minimum pulse duration of the up and down signals is selected to be at least of a duration sufficient to operate its respective charge pump, thereby overcoming the finite turn on time of the respective charge pump, no matter how small the phase error.

Abstract: RCA 74,641 In a circuit using integrated injection logic and emitter coupled logic circuits, a unique arrangement is used to facilitate the interface between various circuit sections. An embodiment in an AM/FM digital tuner circuit is shown. Specifically, the integrated injection logic circuits are stacked with the current supply for the integrated injection logic stack being directly connected to the same power supply operating potential as the current supply for the emitter coupled logic circuits. Such arrangement reduces the magnitude of the potential difference between logic signal voltage levels between the respective logic circuits. Representative interface circuits between integrated injection logic circuits and emitter coupled logic circuits are disclosed. An interlace circuit using emitter coupled logic is disclosed for fast level shift between upper and lower level circuits within the integrated injection logic stack.

Abstract: RCA 68,828 The circuit includes a band selector which in one state controls the passage of a first band of frequencies (e.g. UHF signals) via a counter to a first input port of an Amplifier-Multiplexer (AMP/MUX) and which in another state controls the passage and amplification of a second band of frequencies (e.g. VHF signals) applied to a second input port of the AMP/MUX. When the band selector is in the one state, the stages of the counter are activated and only signals in the first band are coupled through the counter and through the AMP/MUX to additional count down stages connected to the output(s) of the AMP/MUX. In the other state, the stages of the counter are inactivated to prevent oscillations and feed through, and only signals in the second band are coupled through the AMP/MUX to the additional countdown stages.
