    Abstract: An arrangement for a television receiver is disclosed which facilitates the coupling of synchronization signals to an on-screen display integrated circuit of the receiver. The receiver includes sources of periodic vertical and horizontal rate pulses. A composite timing signal generator combines the vertical and horizontal rate pulses so as to form a composite timing signal in which the horizontal rate pulses are absent during the duration of each vertical rate pulse. The composite timing signal is coupled via a single conductor path to an input terminal of the on-screen display circuit. The composite timing signal can be readily decoded by a simple digital counter to provide separate horizontal and vertical rate pulses for the on-screen display circuit.

It has been discovered that the varying capacitance of the diodes with picture amplitude can cause phase shifts and hence phase modulation interference in the intercarrier signal. The latter is especially troublesome for stereo sound reproduction. To reduce such interference, a low value resistor is shunt coupled to the diodes to inhibit the capacitance variations of the diodes and resulting undesired phase modulation in the intercarrier sound signal.

    Abstract: A video or rf switch includes a common port (538) and a plurality of second ports (A,B,C) to which the common port may be coupled by a plurality of switch sections in a single pole, multiple throw configuration. Each switch section includes a diode (514,522,612) coupled to the common port and a source of voltage (523,530,617) for energizing the diode. Conduction through the diode forward-biases it and causes current flow through a common biasing resistor (536). The voltage developed across the resistor back-biases the diodes of the other switch sections. A common blocking capacitor (516) keeps the back-bias voltage away from the common port.
