Abstract: Discontinuous, discrete ceramic fibers are prepared by atomizing a viscous sol or solution of a precursor of a metal oxide into a heated zone where the discontinuous discrete fibers are formed. Subsequent calcination of the fibers provides discontinuous discrete metal oxide ceramic fibers.
