Abstract:
Heterocyclicacetonitriles which are useful in the control of fungi, especially bitunicate asci and unitunicate asci, are provided. These compounds are of the general formula:
wherein Ar₁ and Ar₂ are substituted or unsubstituted aryl groups; Het is a six-membered nitrogen-containing heterocyclic ring; n is the integer 2 or 3; and the agronomically acceptable enantiomorphs, acid addition salts and metal complexes thereof.

Alpha- (2-alkoxyphenyl)-alpha-alkyl-1H-1,2,4-triazole-1-propanenitriles of the formula wherein X is a hydrogen, fluorine, chlorine or bromine, R is hydrogen, (C₁-C₆)alkyl or (C₂-C₅)alkenyl, and R′ is unsubstituted or substituted (C₃-C₈)alkyl, unsubstituted or substituted (C₂-C₆)alkenyl, (C₃-C₆)cycloalkyl or (C₁-C₃)alkyl(C₃-C₆)cycloalkyl wherein the alkyl and alkenyl substituents are one to three halogens, and derivatives, their enantiomorphs, acid addition salts and metal salt complexes are active broad-spectrum systemic fungicides effective in controlling phytopathogenic fungi such as barley helminthosporium, cucumber downy mildew, cucumber powdery mildew, grape downy mildew, peanut cercospora, rice blast, wheat powdery mildew and wheat stem rust. The compounds have protective and curative activity against rice blast when applied foliarly or systemically and residual activity against rice blast via foliar application.

The present invention provides fungicidal heterocyclic silyl compounds of the general formula wherein Het is a six membered heterocyclic moiety ; R is hydrogen or a trisubstituted silyl group ; R 1 , R 2 and R 3 are independently selected from substituted or unsubstituted alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl, alkoxy, phenyl, benzyl and phenethyl groups ; m is 0 or 1 ; and n is zero, one or two.
