    Abstract: A platinum resistance thermometer (10) has an outer housing (12) with a bore (20) that receives a temperature sensor assembly (32) including a mandrel (34) having a sensing section (35) with a platinum wire (36) wound thereon and supported in the bore (20) with a non-cohesive powder material (40) that will distribute stresses caused by differential thermal expansion between the housing (12) and the temperature sensor assembly (32) . A second section (33) of the mandrel (34) is supported in the bore with a rigid potting material (44) to mechanically support the sensor assembly (32) with the sensing section (35) cantilevered from the rigid potting material.
