Abstract: A vortex flow transmitter (10) has a filtering circuit (20) receiving a noise contaminated input signal representative of the flow and which has a fundamental frequency varying responsively to flow. The filter (20) filters the input signal using one of a family of HP filter characteristics. Each member of the family of HP filters has varying corner frequencies, each filter having a unique switchup and a unique switchdown value assigned to it. Adaptive response means (40) select a current HP filter for use in the filter means. The adaptive means use one selection method when the flow is increasing and another selection method when the flow decreases. Output means (52) convert the signal from the filter means into a transmitter output, typically a 4-20 mA current or a frequency output representative of the flow.

Abstract: A two-wire transmitter includes a pressure sensor comprising first and second sensing means each having an impedance value which varies with pressure being measured and with a predetermined environmental condition, such as line pressure or temperature. A fixed impedance has an impedance value which is substantially unchanged by variations in the predetermined environmental condition. A switch alternately connects the fixed impedance into operative relation with the first and second sensing means to derive first and second signals which are each functions of pressure being measured and the predetermined environmental condition. A correction circuit processes the first and second signals, such as by a polynomial series or with a lookup table, to derive a corrected pressure signal. In one form, the sensor senses differential pressure and the predetermined environmental condition is line pressure or temperature, and the first and second signals are functions of both differential pressure and either line pressure or temperature, so the correction circuit derives an indication of differential pressure corrected for variations in either line pressure or temperature. In another form, the sensor measures line pressure and is sensitive to temperature changes, in which case the first and second signals are functions of line pressure and temperature and the correction circuit derives a line pressure signal corrected for variations in temperature.

Abstract: In a two wire transmitter, a capacitive sensor senses differential pressure and provides a differential pressure signal based on the differential pressure sensed. The differential pressure signal varies with variations in static pressure. A capacitive compensator has a capacitive value substantially unaffected by variations in static pressure, and is coupled to the capacitive sensor to compensate the differential pressure signal for variations due to variations in the static pressure.

Abstract: A charge balanced feedback type transmitter generates charge packets representative of a sensed parameter. Improved performance is achieved by the additiion of resistance connected between a charge packet generating reactance and an integrator to reduce the effects of noise caused by switching transients and by ground noise which is coupled to the charge packet generating circuitry by stray capacitance. The charge packets are integrated by the integrater, and the integrator output is supplied from a selective basis to the input of a comparator. The output of the comparator is used to control the application of charge packets to the integrator to achieve charge balance. The input of the comparator is selectively connected to the output of the integrator, to a first supply voltage, or to a second supply voltage to ensure a stable output of the comparator at a critical time when charge is being supplied to the integrator.

Abstract: A digital transmitter with an analog sensor uses an integrating analog-to-digital (A/D) converter to digitize the analog signal from the sensor. The A/D converter produces a digital output which is a continuous, non-rezeroed integrated average of the analog signal, so that the integrated average of the digital output over time does not contain inherent quantization errors. A microcomputer system digitally filters the signal from the A/D converter, and then uses the digitally filtered signal to produce the transmitter output signal. By varying the response time of the digital filter, the response time and resolution of the transmitter can be varied.
