Abstract: A scalable process transmitter architecture includes a unitized sensor module (130) and an optional scalable transmitter (132). The sensor module (130) has a sensor output that is configurable which can connect locally to a scalable transmitter module (132) to form a transmitter, or can be wired directly to a remote receiver (18). The scalable transmitter (132) can mount on the unitized sensor module (130) and generates a scalable output for a remote receiver (18). The transmitter module (132) can provide more advanced features for specific applications.

Abstract: Disclosed is a process control transmitter (30) having an externally accessible DC circuit common (32) that eliminates the need to perform level shifting of signals communicated between the transmitter (30) and external processing electronics (34). The process control transmitter (30) includes first (36), second (38) and third (40) terminals which feedthrough a housing (42). Circuitry (44) contained in the housing (42) is coupled to the first (36), second (38) and third (40) terminals and is adapted to communicate information to external processing electronics (34) through the second and the third terminals (38 and 40) using a digital signal that is regulated relative to a DC common (32) that is coupled to the second terminal (38). External processing electronics (34) can couple to the second and third terminals (38 and 40) and interpret the digital signal without having to perform level-shifting adjustments.
