    Abstract: A temperature measurement and control device for rotating heated rolls, such as those used in the fiber processing industry. The temperature sensor is stationarily mounted and positioned in a slot at one end of a rotating roll, and the sensor is used for controlling power to a heater utilized with the roll. The sensor thus is used to control the temperature of the roll surface. At high roll speeds the thermal coupling between the sensor and the roll is adequate, but at lower speeds that are encountered during the slowing down and stopping of the rolls, the thermal coupling between the roll surfaces and the sensor reduces in efficiency and the sensor conducts a large proportion of heat to its mounting structure. The present device utilizes passing a current through the sensor to self-heat the sensor to compensate for this decrease in thermal coupling and resultant stem conduction error.

    Abstract: The present invention provides a neutron detector comprising an elongated length of straight lead wire, a length of straight sensor wire joined in end to end relation to said lead wire, an insulation layer over said lead wire and sensor wire initially comprising a continuous sleeve formed of loosely joined fibers, said sleeve initially extending unbroken along the entire usable length of said sensor wire and lead wire, an outer sheath surrounding said insulation layer and compressed against said sleeve to increase the density of said insulation layer sufficiently to mechanically hold said lead wire and sensor wire securely with respect to said sheath.

    Abstract: A capacitive type load cell utilizing a support, a diaphragm member mounted with respect to said support for movement relative thereto, said diaphragm having a conductive surface, and a capacitor plate attached to the diaphragm so that upon deflection of the diaphragm there will be relative movement between the diaphragm and the capacitor plate. The diaphragm is constructed to provide free edge bending characteristics both at its outer peripheral edges, and between the diaphragm and the load support button, to thereby reduce radial bending stresses in the diaphragm during loading.
