Abstract: A pressure transmitter (50) has a pressure sensor (24) coupled to an isolator diaphragm (18L/18H) by a fill fluid (22H/22L) such as oil. Means (52L/54H, 56) are provided for measuring the position of the isolator diaphragm (18L/18H) and comparing the measured position with an expected position to give an indication of fill fluid (22H/22L) leakage. Non-contact arrangements such as capacitive and ultrasonic techniques are disclosed for measuring isolator diaphragm (18L/18H) position, as well as contacting arrangements such as switches. The fill fluid loss arrangement can be incorporated into a two-wire transmitter, which transmitter can be made to send a warning signal to a control unit when fill fluid loss is detected.

Abstract: A spring loaded seal (30) is placed between three continuous groove walls (22, 24, 26) between mating parts (12, 16) adjacent to a pressure transmitter isolator (14). The seal (30) includes a resin ring (32) with two ring walls (34, 36) conformable to two (26, 28) of the groove walls. A third ring wall (38) has a continuous slot (42) extending into the ring (32). A coil spring (50) is placed in the slot (42) such that, upon mating of the parts (12, 16), the third wall (26) presses the coil spring (50) toward the slot (42). This compresses the coil spring (50) to sealingly force the first and second outer ring walls (34, 36) against the first and second groove walls (24, 28) respectively with a controlled force. The compression of the coil spring (50) controls the sealing force to limit undesired distortion of the groove walls (24, 26, 28).

Abstract: A field device detects the presence of terminal leakage between a first terminal and a second terminal in the terminal block area of the field device using a voltage variation ratio that is based on variations in a terminal voltage located across output terminals of a field device and variations in a current regulation voltage located within a current regulation circuit. Preferable, the field device measures an initial voltage variation ratio κ 0 and a subsequent voltage variation ratio κ 0 . Based on the initial voltage variation ratio κ 0 and the subsequent voltage variation ratio κ 0 the terminal leakage existing between the first terminal and the second terminal can be calculated.

Abstract: A pressure transmitter (10) has a pressure transducer (12) in a transmitter housing (14). The transmitter housing (14) includes a groove or a notch (20) defining a flexure closely proximate a housing outer rim (24). The outer rim (24) receives a large clamping force from a flange (16) and is deflectable about the flexure for reducing transmission of axial and radial components of the clamping force from the housing outer rim (24) to the transducer (12), which forces can cause distortions to the pressure transducer (12). Unevenly distributed clamping forces caused by differential thermal expansion of the flange (16), bolts (26) and housing (14), are isolated from the transducer (12), thereby reducing measurement errors. Further, transmission of hysteretic radial forces from the transmitter housing (14) to the transducer (12) caused by friction when the flange (16) slides across the pressure transmitter housing (14), each having different thermal coefficients of expansion, is also reduced. Several types of pressure transducers (12) including capacitive cell transducers can be in the transmitter housing (14) for providing a pressure output indicative of line and differential pressure.

Abstract: Disclosed is a bi-directional differential pressure flow sensor (10) that is configured to establish a direction and flow rate of a fluid flow.
