Abstract: FEATURED IS A MAGNETIC DRUM ASSEMBLY INCLUDING A ROTARY DRUM (14) SUPPORTING A MAGNETIC HEAD (1) FOR RECORDING/ REPRODUCING INFORMATION ON A MAGNETIC TAPE AND A STATIONARY DRUM (9) SECURED TO A BASE OF A MAGNETIC RECORDING/REPRODUCING DEVICE. IN ONE ASPECT OF THE INVENTION, THE STATIONARY DRUM (9) IS MOLDED FORM A RESIN MATERIAL TOGETHER WITH A METAL MATERIAL PARTIALLY EMBEDDED AND PARTIALLY EXPOSED AND BEING SECURED AT THE EXPOSED PART OF THE METAL TO THE BASE OF THE MAGNETIC RECORDING/REPRODUCING DEVICE. IN ANOTHER ASPECT OF THE INVENTION, THE ROTARY DRUM (14) IS MOLDED FROM A RESIN MATERIAL TOGETHER WITH A METAL MATERIAL PARTIALLY EMBEDDED AND PARTIALLY EXPOSED AND THE MAGNETIC HEAD (1) IS SECURED AT THE EXPOSED PART OF THE METAL OF THE ROTARY DRUM (14). SUCH A DRUM ASSEMBLY IS ADVANTAGEOUS IN THAT IT IS CAPABLE OF MAINTAINING AN INITIAL ACCURACY OF ITS SIZES AND SHAPE WITHOUT DETERIORATION IN ITS MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OVER TIME DUE TO CREEP DEFORMATION AND INTERNAL STRESS. Abstract: A magnetic recording and playback system has a pair of plates (13a,13b) that are bonded together and which form a combination head system (13). Recording (W11-W14) and playback (R11-R14) heads for digital signals are provided on the plates. Other heads (S1-S4, S1'-S4') are used for servo signals. The head may be adjusted in the X and Y directions. Recordings are made onto standard tape (11) with a width of 3.8 mm and has 16 data tracks together with a pair of control tracks (ST1,ST2) that are used to control head position during playback. ADVANTAGE - Increases number of tracks and provides high accuracy.

THEREFORE, IT BECOMES POSSIBLE TO PROVIDE A DRUM THAT IS SUPERIOR IN THE PRECISION, DIMENSION STABILITY AND SLIDING PROPERTY, WITHOUT THE NEED FOR SECONDARY MACHINING PROCESSES SUCH AS POLISHING.
