Abstract: Optical waveguide paths to observe a sample on a sample holder from a plurality of directions while guiding an image of light in each direction which is emitted out of the sample toward a direction of a two dimensional detector via a main imaging lens include an optical waveguide path which never receives the light directly from the sample. The optical waveguide path which never receives the light directly from the sample forms an image of the sample within a substantial focus range of the main imaging lens, and includes optical elements arranged such that a light beam after formation of the image proceeds toward a direction of the main imaging lens. Optical elements on at least one optical waveguide path are those for forming real images. Therefore, the main imaging lens images the sample and those real images in block on the two dimentional detector.

Hereby, harmful gas entering from the outside or oil vapor or gas generated inside the device can be adsorbed and removed by the activated carbon. A plate-shaped activated carbon can be used as an inner wall or a shielding plate, and thereby a secondary effect for suppressing unnecessary reflection or scattering can be expected. The presence or absence of abnormal signals caused by the detector is always monitored by propriety processing signals output from the light-receiving element 23 and displaying and recording the signals with analytical data.

Hereby, a light source image becomes substantially linear in the longitudinal direction of the slit opening on the surface of the entrance slit 3, to thereby reduce loss of light. Since astigmatic differences caused by astigmatism generated in the illumination optical system and the spectral optical system become mutually opposite and offset with each other, a minute spot which is free of the influence of the astigmatism is obtained on the plane of projection 7.
