    Abstract: PURPOSE:To increase the mechanical strength of the electrode, prolong the cycle life of the captioned secondary battery and make the energy density thereof to be high, by using as the electrode the composite article made of an acetylene high polymer, a thermoplastic resin, a conductive material and a reticular substance. CONSTITUTION:A composite article made of a powder-like, micropiece-like or short fiber-like acetylene high polymer, a thermoplastic resin whose softening point or melting point is preferably below about 330 deg.C such as polyethylene or the like, a conductive material such as carbon black or the like, and a conductive reticular substance is used for, at least, either the positive or the negative electrode of a secondary battery. This composite article can be formed by mixing together the acetylene high polymer, the thermoplastic resin and the conductive material, piling the conductive reticular substance, on this mixture and then pressing them. The battery using this electrode is good in the flatness of the voltage during discharge, and this battery can be easily reduced in its weight and size.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a secondary cell with a high energy density, a long cycle life, and the excellent voltage flatness and charging/discharging efficiency by using an acetylene-series high polymer containing an electrolyte obtained by removing a solvent from a mixture of the electrolyte and the acetylene-series high polymer as an electrode. CONSTITUTION:The acetylene-series high polymer used in this invention is a homopolymer of an acetylene-series compound, a copolymer of an acetylene- series compounds of two types or more, and a copolymer of an acetylene-series compound and other copolymer constituent having a unit expressed by the following equation in the molecule. [In the equation, R is a hydrocarbon group with 6 or less carbon atoms substituted by hydrogen atoms or halogen atoms, an alkyl group with 6 or less substituted carbon atoms, or an aryl group with 6-10 substituted carbon atoms.] As a mixing method of the acetylene-series high polymer and the electrolyte, a method to immerse the acetylene-series high polymer into the electrolyte or a method to put the acetylene-series high polymer into a ball mill, etc. and crush and mix it concurrently is used. As a method to remove a solvent from the mixture, decompression drying or spraying of inactive gas is used.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To increase mecnanical strength of an electrode and improve cycle life by using a composite material of acetylene high polymer and metal fiber in at least one electrode of positive and negative electrodes of a secondary battery. CONSTITUTION:Metallic fiber such as stainless steel, Al, or Cu is mixed to catalyst solution, and acetylene is polymerized in existence of metallic fiber to form a composite material comprising acetylene high polymer and metallic fiber. This composite material is processed with a roller or calender and used in at least one electrode of positive and negative electrodes of a secondary battery. This battery has high energy density, flat discharge voltage. Thereby, a light and compact battery is easily manufactured.

For example, straight chain type low density polyethylene powder, toluene, triisobutyl aluminium, and tetrabutyl titanate are put in a glass crepe, acetylene gas is bown in while being stirred at the room temperature, and powder containing thermo- plastic polymer is obtained. A positive pole and a negative pole are cut out of the formed body made of the polymer compound obtained through thermal pressing of the powder, and the secondary battery is constituted using acetonitrile solution of Et4N.BF4 as an electrolyte.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To obtain a purified acetylene high-polymer undergoing less decomposition and degradation and being excellent in strength, etc., and suitable for use in a solar battery or the like, by contacting an acetylene high-polymer in which a polymerization catalyst remains with an organic acid and thereby effectively removing the catalyst.
    CONSTITUTION: Acetylene high-polymer powder of the formula (wherein R is H, a halogen, a 6C or lower alkyl, or a 6W10C aryl) in which a polymerization catalyst such as a Ziegler catalyst remains is added to a solution of an organic acid and agitated. The polymer powder is separated, washed, and dried to remove the remaining cattalyst and obtain the purpose purified acetylene high- polymer. Examples of the organic acids which can be suitably used include maleic anhydride, benzoic acid, and acetic acid, and examples of the solvents include those which dissolve the organic acid but do not dissolve the acetylene high-polymer, for example, chlorobenzene, acetonitrile, and toluene.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To perform doping within a short time and obtain a light-weight electroconductive material which can be molded into any desired shape, by molding a melt of a mixture of polypyrroline and a dopant. CONSTITUTION:An electroconductive material is obtained by molding a melt of a mixture of polypyrroline and a dopant. Any dopant that does not cause polypyrroline to decompose can be used, and ones which are liquid at 300 deg.C or below, for example, sulfur trioxide, iodine, bromine trifluoride, arsenic triiodide, and antimony trichloride can be mentioned. The mixing ratio of the polypyrroline to the dopant may be such that the dopant is present in an amount sufficient to melt the polypyrroline and can be readily determined by a preliminary experiment. This melt can be formed into any desired molding by a molding process such as extrusion, pressing, injection, or casting. Said electroconductive material can be used for use in electrodes of primary and secondary cells, or the like, or a variety of electric and electronic components.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To produce an acetylenic high polymer continuously at low manufacturing cost, by employing a loop polymerizer. CONSTITUTION:From a material feeder (numeral 1 is a feeder for acetylene, 2 is a feeder for a solvent, 3 is a feeder for a base catalyst, 4 is a feeder for a promotor, and 5 is a feeder for a comonomer), each material is fed continuously to a loop polymerizer 6, polymerized while being moved through the inside of the loop at a high speed by means of a screw 7, and the polymer is withdrawn after a predetermined residence time by opening a discharge valve 8. An equal or smaller amount of a diethylene monomer may be used in combination with acetylene (derivative). A Ziegler catalyst, a Luttinger catalyst or the like is used. The polymerization temperature is preferably about -100-200 deg.C, and the polymerization pressure is preferably about 10kg/cm or below.
