Abstract: Raw caprolactam (I), obtd. by extn. from sulphuric soln. with alkylated phenols and re-extn. with water, is purified by oxidn. treatment (pref. with KMnO4), evapn. of the water and successive vacuum distn. The improvement is that a fast distn. in presence of an alkaline cpd. is inserted before the oxidn. treatment. "Fast" distn. means that the evapd. material is not refluxed to the evapn. zone. The purity of the obtd. (I) is further increased by the fast distn. The obtd. (I) may be of sufficient purity to produce polymerisation grade nylon-6 (i.e. nylon suitable for prodn. of industrial prods. such as fibres and plastics). The amt. of oxidising agent reqd. is reduced, which gives ecological and economic advantages, since oxidising agent cost is reduced and less (I) is destroyed by the oxidising agent.

Abstract: An information system comprises a computer, storage on the computer for files containing frames of information, a reader for the stored files and a signal transmitter to an output port of the computer. A modulator is connected to the output port of the computer for producing a modulated television carrier signal.
