Abstract: An omega-amino alkenoic acid containing from 8 to 12 carbon atoms is obtained from an omega-formyl alkenoic acid, which also contains from 8 to 12 carbon atoms, by reacting the acid with ammonia and hydrogen in the presence of a hydrogenation catalyst. Preferably the omega-formyl alkenoic aicd is obtained by reacting a polyunsaturated hydrocarbon cycloolefin with ozone to form a mono-ozonide in solution with a polar solvent, the solution being in the form of a separable phase which can be transposed to form the starting omega-formyl alkenoic acid.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for the preparation of saturated and unsaturated .alpha.,.omega.-dialde-hydes containing from 8 to 12 carbon atoms, by catalytic reduction of the corresponding monoozonides of multi-un-saturated cycloolefines. The .alpha.,.omega.-dialdehydes thus obtained also constitute an object of this invention. These compounds serve as intermediates for the synthesis of other products which in turn are compound intermediates, such as the corresponding diacids and diamines, from which the various types of nylon can then be obtained.

Abstract: A process for continuous or batch preparation of an .omega.-amino-acid is described, comprising the imination of an unsaturated aldehyde acid, the catalytic reduction in a single hydrogenation step of the imine of the ethylenically unsaturated straight chain .omega.-aldehyde acid in the presence of ammonia and an alkaline metal hydroxide whereby the alkaline salt of the imine is obtained, and the acidification of the alkaline salt of the .omega.-amino acid. The imine of formyl alkenoic acid is prepared at most at room temperature adding the acid to an ammonia solution of above 10%, then adding NaOH solution to the ammonia solution The reductive imination is effectuated in two steps, first at 100-150.degree.C and the second at 150-180.degree.C under a 20-70 Ate pressure in the presence of a nickel catalyst. High yield and only few by-products are obtained.

Abstract: An omega-hydroxy alkenoic acid containing 8 or 12 carbon atoms is obtained by the selective reduction of the carbonyl group of an omega-formyl alkenoic acid, for example by the use of sodium borohydride, and wherein the starting acid is produced by the ozonization and transposition of a polyunsaturated hydrocarbon cycloolefin. The unsaturated omega-hydroxy acids have important applications, e.g. use in making polymers or copolymers whose reactivity, due to the presence of double bonds, enables them to be used for the manufacture of products which in turn possess desirable properties. Examples of such products are textile products possessing a high degree of dye-ability and additives for anti-static agents or for resins, all of which is easily understandable by persons skilled in the art.

Abstract: A method is disclosed for producing cellulosic and/or polynosic fibres having flame-resisting properties, the improvement consisting in the fact that a composite viscose is spun in an acidic bath, said composite viscose being obtained by the association in an aqueous solvent, of cellulose xanthate with a phosphorus and nitrogen compound, dissolved in the same aqueous solvent and capable of being converted, while cellulose is being regenerated in said acidic bath, into a state of substantial insolubility. The phosphorus and nitrogen compound is a compound obtained by reacting a phosphonium derivative with aminoacids and amines and/or ammonia. A preferred compound is tetrakis-hydroxy-methylphosphonium chloride. By so doing, an efficient flameretarding protection is obtained for the fibre without sacrificing the physical properties thereof. Critical quantities, reaction conditions and test results are reported.
