Abstract: Good yields of caprolactam are obtained by reacting cyclohexane with NO, at moderate temps, and opt. under pressure in presence of AlCl3 and metal carbonyl, such as Fe(CO)5 catalyst. In an example, 1 part cyclohexane in benzene is treated with 1 part NO at 300 atm. excess pressure and 180 degrees C in presence of 0.1% Fe(CO)5 and 0.3% AlCl3.
