Abstract: An apparatus is provided comprising: a record and/or playback units having a first circuit board provided with a grounding potential unit; a cover body pivotably mounted to the record and/or playback unit and including a shield member connected to the grounding potential unit and a second circuit board connected to the first circuit board; a holder made of a metallic material and arranged to travel between the location for loading a recording medium into the record and/or playback unit and the location spaced away from the record and/or playback unit as the cover body is pivotably moved, and a grounding member made of a metallic material, provided with an engaging portion for engagement with the shield member and a contact for coming into direct contact with the holder, and connected to the shield member to urge the cover body in a direction of the holder pivotably turning. Since the shield member is connected to the grounding member, the circuit board remains connected to the ground thus preventing the apparatus from being statically charged.

Abstract: A cassette loading apparatus having a cassette holder (16) for holding a tape cassette (56) and driven by a gear train (22 to 25) to move the tape cassette (56) to a predetermined loading position, includes a pair of gears (25; 23,24) in engagement with each other in the gear train (22 to 25), at least one of the pair of gears (25) being formed as a geneva stop gear (25), a locking member (52) provided on one (25) of the pair of gears (25; 23,24), and a cam (53) formed on the other gear (23,24) for engagement with the locking member (52). The cam (53) has a length such that when the pair of gears (25; 23,24) are in engagement, the locking member (52) is restricted by the cam (53), and when the pair of gears (25; 23,24) are disengaged from each other by the geneva stop gear (25), a rotational ratio substantially equal to the gear ratio of the pair of gears (25; 23,24) is applied to the pair of gears (25; 23,24) by the cam (53) and the locking member (52). In this way when the cassette holder (16) is moved to the loading position the locking member (52) comes in contact with the cam (53), thereby locking the cassette holder (16).

Abstract: A thermal printing apparatus includes a platen about which a sheet of paver is circumferentially embraced; a head transfer carriage mounted on guide rails of the apparatus for slidable movement in the lengthwise direction of the platen; a thermal head assembly mounted only on one guide rail so as to move with the head transfer carriage in the lengthwise direction of the platen while also being adapted to pivot about the guide rail toward and away from the platen, such that a tape from a tape cartridge is positioned between the thermal head assembly and the paper so that as the thermal head assembly moves along the platen, it selectively heats the tape in response to an information signal to transfer the pigment from the tape onto the paper and thereby record visual information on the paper; a tape clamp device including a lever pivotally mounted to the apparatus, an elastic plate fixedly mounted to the apparatus, and a spring which biases the lever toward the elastic plate to clamp the tape therebetween during movement of the thermal head assembly in the recording operation; and another tape clamp device including a lever pivotally mounted to the head transfer carriage, an elastic plate fixedly mounted to the carriage and a spring which biases the lever toward the elastic plate to clamp the tape therebetween during movement of the thermal head assembly in the carriage return operation.

The cam (53) has a length such that when the pair of gears (25; 23,24) are in engagement, the locking member (52) is restricted by the cam (53), and when the pair of gears (25; 23,24) are disengaged from each other by the geneva stop gear (25), a rotational ratio substantially equal to the gear ratio of the pair of gears (25; 23,24) is applied to the pair of gears (25; 23,24) by the cam (53) and the locking member (52). In this way when the cassette holder (16) is moved to the loading position the locking member (52) comes in contact with the cam (53), thereby locking the cassette holder (16).
