Abstract: A semiconductor device includes a semiconductor substrate of one conductivity type, two electrodes formed on the substrate, a first gate region formed in the substrate and having an opposite conducitivity to the substrate, and a second gate region formed in the first gate region of the opposite conductivity type of said first region to form a PN junction therebetween. When a control signal is applied to the second gate region and the PN junction is reversely biased, an electric charge is stored within the first gate region.

Abstract: An annealing method for heating a sample by applying radiation of light beams thereto, arranged so that the radiant power of the light beams is sampled or monitored by a light detector (a light detector 12, for example, formed of a phototransistor, photodiode, and the like) and the radiant power of the light beams is controlled through a feedback with the data derived from the monitoring used as the feedback control signal so that the heating temperature of the sample (5) is stablized. The annealing can be performed with excellent reproducibility from sample to sample.

Abstract: A high-display-quality electrochromic display unit comprising a transparent electrode (1), a display layer (2) formed in contact with the transparent electrode (1) and having its color changed according to an accumulated charge amount, and an ion conduction layer (3) formed in contact with the display layer (3). A plurality of pixel electrodes (4) are formed in contact with the surface, opposite to the surface in contact with the display layer (2), of the ion conduction layer (3). The pixel electrodes (4) are driven independently by, for example, a corresponding thin film transistor (6). When driven, a drive current having a specified charge amount is run and then a reverse current is run in a specified amount to thereby reduce coloring by a specified amount and eliminate the surplus coloring of the display layer (2).

Abstract: The invention provides a method of driving an electrochromic display unit with high quality display. The display unit comprises a transparent electrode (1), a display layer (2) which is formed on the transparent electrode (1) and which changes a color according to the amount of accumulated electrical charges, and an ion conductive layer (3) formed on the display layer (2). A plurality of picture electrodes (4) are formed on the ion conductive layer (3) on the side opposite to the display layer (2). The picture electrodes (4) are driven independently by, for example, a corresponding thin film transistors (6). In driving, by applying a drive current having given amount of electrical charges and then applying a certain amount of an inverted current, a certain amount of coloration is deducted, and extra coloration of the display layer (2) is eliminated.
