Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain almost all information of the kind, function, etc., of a recording medium from the appearance of a cartridge by indicating the information necessary for recording and reproducing with an identifying means to be switchable from an external part and an identifying means to be unswitchable. CONSTITUTION:A second identifying means is provided oppositly to a first identifying means of a cartridge 1 main body. It is composed by providing a window hole 12 at an upper half 1a side, providing an oblong window hole 13 composed of one half part 13a corresponding to the window hole 12 and another half part 13b not to be corresponding at a lower half 1b side and fitting a blocking piece 14 to be blockable at the inner surface side of the hole 13. By a frame wall 15 and lock projecting parts 16a and 16b provided to the oblong window 13, the blocking piece 14 is fitted in a press-in condition. By the identifying means, many kinds of information necessary for recording and reproducing are indicated. On the other hand, an inserting fit-in is movably executed from the external part of a blocking piece 4 movably to the oblong hole 3 of the first identifying means of the main body 1, the movement is executed between the one half part 3a and another half part 3b, and many kinds of information are indicated.
