Abstract: An organic electroluminescence device having a luminous efficiency improved by increasing the reflectance of the anode and its producing method are disclosed. On a substrate (11), an anode (12), an organic layer (15) including a hole-injection thin-film layer (13), an insulating layer (14), and an emitting layer (15c), and a cathode (16) including a semitransparent electrode (16A) are provided in multilayer. The anode (12) is made of silver, a metal of high reflectance, or an alloy containing silver, and the hole-injection thin-film layer (13) contains chromium oxide. The light emitted from the emitting layer (15c) is multiply reflected between the anode (12) and the semitransparent electrode (16A) and outputted from the cathode (16). Since the reflectance of the anode (12) is high, the light emitted from the emitting layer (15C) can be outputted at high efficiency. The alloy of the anode (12) is preferably an alloy containing silver, palladium, and copper, and the content of silver is preferably 50 mass% or more.

Abstract: An organic EL device comprises a first electrode consisting of light-reflecting material, an organic layer with an organic luminescent layer and acting as a resonator, and a second electrode consisting of a reflective half-transparent layer and a transparent material. To obtain light resonating with a certain spectrum width, L is minimized provided that (2L)/μ+sg(f)(2π)=m is satisfied, where ζ (in radian) is the phase shift appearing when the light from the organic luminescent layer reflects at both ends of the resonator, L is the optical distance of the resonator, and μ is the peak wavelength of a desired spectrum of light.

Abstract: A top-emitting display unit is fabricated by the following steps: A lower electrode is formed on a substrate. An organic layer including a luminescent sublayer is formed on the lower electrode. Furthermore, an upper electrode containing lithium is formed by a sputtering process into a thickness of 7 nm to 21 nm. The upper electrode functions as a cathode. The lithium content in the upper electrode is in the range of 0.3 to 1.9 percent by weight. In the sputtering process, the upper electrode is preferably formed at a deposition rate of 50 nm/min or less.

Abstract: Provided is a display unit capable of preventing the entry of moisture via a coating layer and having higher reliability. A drive panel and a sealing panel face each other with a middle layer in between. The drive panel includes organic light-emitting devices on a drive substrate with a drive device layer and a coating layer being laid over the drive device layer in between. The middle layer is disposed between the drive panel and the sealing panel so as to be laid over the organic light-emitting devices, and the middle layer is laid over not only a surface but also an end surface of the coating layer. Therefore, the end surface of the coating layer is not exposed from between the drive panel and the sealing panel, so external moisture can be prevented from entering via the coating layer.
