Abstract: A tone arm, designed for use with a semi- or fully automatic record player, is provided with an electromagnetic drive mechanism. The tone arm is supported by two separate shafts so as to be rotatable in both the horizontal and vertical directions. A bobbin, to which horizontal and vertical drive coils are circumferentially attached, is arranged coaxially with that shaft permitting horizontal movement. A permanent magnet is arranged facing the drive coils. Interaction between the permanent magnetic field and those generated by energization of the drive coils causes either a torque or a vertical force to be imparted to the bobbin and thus effect a corresponding movement of the tone arm.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve response with simple structure by winding both horizontal and vertical driving coils around a single bobbin and also by providing magnets face to face. CONSTITUTION:Around the external circumference surface of bobbin 11, vertical driving coil 21 obtained by winding a wire material in a circumferential direction is wound and to its outer circumference part, a couple of horizontal driving coils 22 and 23 obtained by winding wire materials nearly in a rectangular shape are fitted being symmetric on horizontal ratation axis 10; and a couple of segment magnets 24 and 25 are arranged at outer circumferences of coils 21-23. Consequently, feeding currents through horizontal driving coils 22 and 23 generates torque at bobbin 11 as well as a direct-current motor and bobbin 11 rotates on horizontal rotation axis 10 to turn tone arm 5 through pin 31 and arm bearing pedestal 6 for lead-in, reject or return operation. On the other hand, supplying a current through direct- current driving coil 21 makes bobbin 11 compress coil spring 19 by lowering to rotate tone arm 5 on vertical rotation axis 7 through arm lifter 33, thereby lowering cartridge 8.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To enable accurate servo control and to reduce the space, by providing two motors coaxially to the swing shaft of arm, turning the arm with the 1st motor and lifting up and down the arm with the 2nd motor.
