Abstract: PURPOSE:To produce a magnetostrictive delay wire having uniform characteristics by heat-treating a thin strip consisting of an amorphous magnetic alloy at temps. lower than the crystallization temp. of the amorphous magnetic alloy while holding the same in the state in which tension is acted upon the same. CONSTITUTION:An amorphous alloy ribbon 1 is taken up from a supply reel 2 via a kiln 4 on a take-up reel 3. At this time, tension to the extent of permitting holding of the ribbon 1 substantially linearly is acted upon said ribbon, wherein the tension of about is sufficient. The treating temp. in the kiln 4 is required to be maintained at the temp. lower than the crystallization temp. because the amorphous alloy 1 does not crystallize. The heat treating time is determined by the correlation with treating temps. The cooling may be natural air cooling, but in general it is accomplished at about 25 deg.C/sec. The magnetostrictive constant of the magnetostrictive material is preferably negative.
