Abstract: An information providing system (1) includes an information apparatus (11) containing a medium type indicating a corresponding information type and having a setting function for setting a user identifier to specify a user who receives information provided and a connection function for connecting to a network, and an information server apparatus to which the information apparatus (11) is connected via the network. According to user profile data indicating information to be provided in accordance with the user identifier, database (23, 24) containing content data related to a medium type and an information genre, and a request from the information apparatus, the information server apparatus searches for and fetches content data from the database. The information apparatus (11) includes a request processing computer (21) for supplying the fetched data as content data of a corresponding medium type to the information apparatus (11). Thus, even an information apparatus having no sophisticated input apparatus can fetch information from the Internet and utilize it. Moreover, an information provider can provide information without being conscious what kind of apparatus a user uses for fetching information.
