Abstract: Moving picture data is compression-encoded in frame image data units by compression-encoding means and temporarily stored in a buffer. The frame rate is modified by frame rate modification means according to the amount of data stored in the buffer. Thus, the number of frame image data sets to be compression-encoded per unit time is adequately modified according to a change of the pattern of a moving picture so as to stabilize the compression ratio and the moving picture quality, thereby providing a moving picture of a desired quality. Moreover, trace means traces extracted image data in the frame image data by using a simple motion vector detected for the frame image data included in the moving picture data. Upper-layer motion vector detection means shares the simple motion vector to detect a motion vector of the frame image data. Compression-encoding means extracts extracted image data according to the trace result and performs compression-encoding by using a motion vector, thereby significantly reducing the calculation amount upon detection of a motion vector and increasing the speed of compression-encoding of the extracted image data.

Abstract: In a communication system, asynchronous file data which does not require real time performance represented by still image data, text data, and a program file, and asynchronous file data having a low bit rate such as audio data and video data, all of which is outputted from a data source block (11) in a source device (10) is written into a memory (13), and the data is transmitted to a 1394 interface (14) by a processor (12). The 1394 interface (14) puts the asynchronous file data into an asynchronous packet and transmits the packet to a destination device (20) via a 1394 bus (30).

Abstract: In a technique for motion compensation encoding, a digital video signal is pre-filtered in a first filter and motion information derived from the same video signal pre-filtered in a second filter is used to encode the first-filtered video signal. More specifically, a received digital video signal is filtered in a first pre-filter (101), which has a controllable filter characteristic that varies in response to several characteristics of the received digital video signal. The originally received digital video signal also is filtered in a second pre-filter (102). A motion vector is derived (105) from motion that is detected in the second filtered signal, and the first filtered video signal is motion compensation encoded using the derived motion vector of the second filtered video signal.

Abstract: If a bus reset occurs in transmitting printing data (ST21), an STB requests a printer to transmit the information outputted before the bus reset (C18). Th e printer outputs the information inputted before the bus reset to the STB in response to the request (R18). The STB outputs the printing data to the printer again (C19). The STB recognizes the information outputted by itself before the bus reset and resumes the data transmission (S14). Therefore even if a bus reset occurs, data transmission is completed in a short time, there by reducing the whole printing time.
