    Abstract: A method for controlling gradation in an ink jet printer is provided which includes the steps of (a) reading input picture data in first memory means (b) determining the position of a pixel under consideration from the input picture data read out from the first memory means and for calculating an error +531 =X-X', where X is input picture data of the pixel under consideration and X' is a level of plural stages to be actually printed, (c) distributing the error +531 to surrounding pixels around the pixel under consideration, (d) replacing the input picture data of the surrounding pixels, to which the error has been distributed, based on the distributed error, (e) performing the steps (a) to (d) for all input picture data by way of dithering, (f) storing the dithered pixel data resulting from the step (e) in second memory means, (g) generating, from the dithered pixel data read out from the second memory means, output picture data controlling the ink dot diameter of each pixel, (h) D/A converting the output picture data and (i) impressing an output voltage resulting from D/A conversion across an electrostriction oscillator of the printing head for variably controlling the diameter of liquid droplets of the liquid ink discharged from the printing head.

SOLUTION: When hardware brake occurs during the debugging processing of an application program 43 and a state that a current address is a virtual address which can not be converted by a CPU 41 is detected, the debugger 22a temporarily releases the hardware braking function and executes an address error processing routine in the operating system 42 to perform address error processing. Then the hardware braking function is set again and the application program 43 is executed again. When the hardware brake occurs, the CPU 41 can access the address, so that the debugger 22a can perform code analysis operation.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the number of D-A converters by so driving a second piezoelectric element by deviating the time as not to superpose print heads when a liquid chamber is pressed by a first piezoelectric element to ooze quantitative liquid and then the quantitative liquid is mixed with discharge liquid to be discharged by a second piezoelectric element. SOLUTION: When a full color printing is conducted, the quantitative amounts of inks are determined not simultaneously at all the colors of inks but determined in a time division manner. That is, piezoelectric elements provided at the quantitatively determining side of print heads 32, 33, 34, 35 corresponding to the colors are so driven by displacing the times as not to be superposed. D-A converters 36 provided one for each of print heads 32, 33, 34, 35 corresponding to the colors. However, the converters 36 are provided in number responsive to the number of nozzles provided at the heads 32, 33, 34, 35. The plurality of heads can be controlled by one D-A converter for one nozzle, and hence the number can be largely reduced.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable in-dot density modulation without employing a D/A converter by a method wherein liquid is measured by modulating the number of pluses to be applied to a first piezoelectric element so as to modulate in-dot density in a printer device for mixingly discharging the measuring liquid and discharging liquid. SOLUTION: The measuring of ink in a printer device can be performed by modulating the number of pulses. Concretely, one pulse measures the minimum measuring amount of ink. By repeating the pulse several times, necessary density gradation is obtained. For example, the measuring of ink is performed in 256 times, the gray scale of 256 gradations in a dot can be obtained. Before the application of a discharging pulse, measuring pulse is applied several times to a second piezoelectric element 2. In order to modulate the number of pulses, a pulse generating device, in which the number of pulses can be varied, is used. By employing the modulating system of the number of pulses for in-dot density modulation, the desired density gradation is obtained without using a valuable D/A converter and, at the same time, a low cost printer device is obtained.
