Abstract:
The present invention is intended to extend the operation life of a recording medium and to assure the safety of data writing to UDA. A recording medium includes a user data area (UDA) for writing real data and a program memory area (PMA) for writing management data. In PMA, repetitive writing operation number NA of UDA, write end address AE, operation life number NL and final address AL, etc. are written. On the occasion of recording the real data to UDA, writing is started from the address next to the write end address AE at the time of the preceding recording operation and after the recording is executed up to the final address AL, data writing is started again from the address 0 to give increment of one (1) to NA. The real data is written in average up to the final address from the start address of UDA. When NA exceeds NL, warning is displayed and the disc ejected. Writing of real data to UDA in which safety of writing is not assured can be avoided.

Abstract:
S0989 S78P3 In a brushless DC motor, the rotor has a rotor shaft with a rotor yoke attached thereto and an annular rotor magnet mounted on the rotor yoke, the stator has a stator yoke with stator coils disposed on the stator yoke so as to face the rotor magnet, and two magnetic field sensing elements, such as, Hall elements, are provided for detecting the rotational position of the rotor. A printed wiring board and the stator coils are arranged on the same surface of the stator yoke so as to make the motor flat. The printed wiring board also serves as a thrust pad for the rotor shaft and provides a ground for the latter.
Abstract:
A device is provided for opening and closing a shutter member of a disk cartridge containing a disk in a cartridge housing and adapted for insertion into a signal recording and/or reproducing apparatus that uses the disk as a magnetic recording medium. The cartridge housing has signal read and write apertures in its upper and lower walls. The shutter member is mounted so as to partially cover a front wall and the upper wall and lower wall of the cartridge housing for opening and closing the apertures, and has an engaging opening exposing the front and lower walls. The device includes a pair of opening and closing elements mounted on the signal recording and/or reproducing apparatus so as to be in the path of insertion of the disk cartridge. The elements are provided with engaging portions adapted for selectively engaging in the engaging opening of the shutter member and for being rotated when thrust by the disk cartridge. The opening and closing elements are so designed that their engaging portions strike each other to inhibit insertion of the disk cartridge when the latter is inserted with a reversed orientation so that its rear side opposes the opening and closing elements.

Abstract:
The method of the present invention includes an exposing step in which a laser beam for recording modulated by an information signal corresponding to an information signal of an information concave and convex pattern formed on the optical disc is applied to an inorganic resist layer 101 formed on a substrate 100 to form an exposed pattern corresponding to the information concave and convex pattern on the optical disc, and a development step in which a concave and convex pattern corresponding to the information concave and convex pattern by the inorganic resist layer is formed. By applying a laser beam for estimation to a predetermined area on the inorganic resist layer in the exposing step to estimate recorded signal characteristics of the exposed pattern by the inorganic resist layer using reflected light of the laser beam for estimation, and controlling power of the laser beam for recording based on the estimated result, the aimed information recording on the optical disc can reliably be obtained.
Abstract:
A disc cartridge having a cartridge body in which a magneto-optical disc is rotatably accommodated in a hermetic-fashion so as to be capable of recording and/or reproduction. The cartridge body has a concave cut-away portion extended from an insertion side end face of the cartridge body to a central portion of the cartridge body to introduce external magnetic field generating means which generates an external magnetic field to record an information signal on the magneto-optical disc accommodated within the cartridge body.
Abstract:
A device for opening and closing a shutter member (9) provided in a disc cartridge (1) containing a disc (6), the disc cartridge (1) being insertable into signal recording and/or reproducing apparatus making use of the disc (6) as, for example, a magnetic recording medium. The cartridge housing (5) includes signal read and write apertures (7,8) on its upper and lower surfaces. The shutter member (9) is mounted so as to partially cover a front wall (12), an upper wall (2) and a lower wall (3) of the cartridge housing (5) so as to open and close the apertures (7,8), and has an engaging opening (29) extending in the front and lower walls (12,3). The device includes a pair of opening and closing members (51,52) provided in the signal recording and/or reproducing apparatus so as to engage the disc cartridge (1) when inserted. The members (51,52) are provided with engaging portions (55,56) for selectively engaging in the engaging opening (29) of the disc cartridge shutter member (9) and for being pivoted by being thrust by the disc cartridge (1) during insertion. The opening and closing members (51,52) are so designed that their engaging portions (55,56) strike each other to inhibit further pivoting and further insertion of the disc cartridge (1) when the latter is being inserted incorrectly from its rear side (13) opposite to its front side covered by the shutter member (9). When the disc cartridge (1) is inserted correctly from its front side, the respective engaging portion (55,56) on one of the opening and closing members (51,52) fits into the engaging opening (29) of the shutter member (9), opening the apertures (7,8) and causing the opening and closing members (51,52) to pivot in staggered fashion, whereby the engaging portions (55,56) do not meet and the disc cartridge (1) can be fully inserted.
