Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To miniaturize a cassette changer device utilizing an elevator system by reducing the space between the elevator and a loading/unloading part of a recording/reproducing device as much as possible. Thus, the collision of the cassette recording medium 12 with the elevator 200 is prevented in the manner of eliminating by the tape streamer part 28 that the cassette recording medium 12 becomes the half inserting state, during the time the elevator 200 is possibly moved.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve a practical data transfer rate including tape exchange time. SOLUTION: A host computer 110 and a data recorder 111 are connected by an SCSI cable 113. Also, an automatic changer 112 is connected with the host computer 110. The host computer 110 is provided with a hard disk drive 114 and the data recorder 111 is provided with a memory 116 for a DIT (directory information table). A tape 115 to be mounted is supplied from the automatic changer 312 to the data recorder 111. Instead of reading the DIT from the tape by physical loading, logical loading is performed by using the write DIT command of an SCSI from the host computer 110. Further, instead of writing the DIT on the tape by physical unloading, logical unloading is performed by using the read DIT command of the SCSI.
