Abstract: A reader for an optical card in which data are recorded along a plurality of tracks on an optical recording medium and optically detected by receiving the light that is emitted from a source of light and reflected by the optical recording medium, which comprises: a memory which records the levels of signals outputted from an optical detector; and a comparator which successively compares the level of an outputted signal stored in the memory with the level of a signal outputted from the optical detector obtained by the next scanning; wherein when the result of comparison indicates that the level outputted from the optical detector is higher than the output level read out of the memory, the content of the memory is replaced by the one that is on the higher level.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To drastically shorten a time required for collating fingerprints by a template and also to keep collection performance in the case of the deformation of a finger. SOLUTION: It is judged whether or not a collation picture which is obtained by binarizing an inputted digital image for fingerprint collation through the use of a proper method coincides in fingerprint with a register image whose register template is extracted by matching with a plurality of pre-registered register templates. Then position relation is checked only between detected addresses in the adjacent templates in place of checking position relation between the addresses of whole points with a high coincidence degree which are detected concerning the respective templates. Thus, a number for combination is drastically reduced and a rapid processing is performed. Besides, the processing is performed only between the physically near templates so that the deformation of the finger is no problem in comparison with the case that the processing is performed between remote templates.
