Abstract: An integrated circuit (24) for a smart card (24) may include a transceiver (30) for communicating with a host device (21) and a Joint Test Action Group (JTAG) test controller (28) for performing at least one test operation. Further, the integrated circuit may also include a processor (31) for causing the JTAG test controller (28) to initiate the at least one test operation based upon receiving at least one test request from the host device via the transceiver. More particularly, the processor may convert the at least one test request to JTAG data for the JTAG test controller. That is, the integrated circuit advantageously allows communications between the host device and the JTAG controller via a system bus, for example, without the need for a dedicated JTAG test access port (TAP) which is typically required for accessing JTAG controllers.

Abstract: An integrated circuit for a smart card may include a transceiver and a controller for cooperating with the transceiver to receive operating requests from a host device. The controller may perform smart card operations based upon respective operating requests. Moreover, the controller also may cooperate with the transceiver to receive at least one advance request from the host device to indicate that at least one operating request will follow. By way of example, the standby operation may include loading data in at least one buffer, which may be sent to the host device based upon receiving the at least one operating request. Other standby operations may include disabling data transmission to the host device, such as when the communications bus of the host device is preoccupied, and ceasing performing a current smart card operation to allow a higher priority smart card operation to be performed, for example.

Abstract: A method and device are disclosed for detecting successful transfers between a Universal Serial Bus (USB) port and a USB smart card and generating a signal that provides an indication of the USB transaction activity. This USB transaction activity signal is modulated according to the USB transaction activity and drives a Light Emitting Diode (LED) in a preferred embodiment of the invention. A counter internal to the USB smart card scales the transaction activity signal such that it is perceptible to the user. Because the current through the LED depends upon the USB transaction activity, the brightness of the LED varies according to the USB transaction activity. The LED may be driven from a current mirror sink or source, or a current switch sink or source.

Abstract: An integrated circuit for a smart card may include a universal serial bus (USB) transceiver for communicating with a USB host device, and a microprocessor connected to the USB transceiver and operable in a test mode and a user mode. When in the test mode, the microprocessor may perform a test operation based upon receiving at least one test vendor specific request (VSR) from the USB host device via the at least one USB transceiver. By way of example, the test operation may include scan testing the microprocessor's control logic, detecting a status of at least one buffer and communicating the status to the USB host device, writing test data to at least one designated buffer and sending the test data from the at least one designated buffer to the USB host device, and/or operating with reduced power.

Abstract: Un método para señalizar la actividad de las transacciones entre un módulo de tarjeta inteligente (10) con bus de serie universal (USB) y un puerto USB, caracterizado porque el módulo de tarjeta inteligente tiene cuatro contactos de tarjeta inteligente que se utilizan para conectar el módulo de tarjeta inteligente al USB y al menos un contacto que no se utiliza para conectar la tarjeta inteligente al USB y porque el módulo de tarjeta inteligente (10) está conectado al USB mediante un dispositivo de interfaz (40) que tiene un conector dotado de contactos que coinciden con los de la tarjeta inteligente, incluyendo: a) la transmisión y recepción de paquetes USB entre el módulo de tarjeta inteligente (10) y el puerto USB; b) la generación de una señal de correcta transmisión (37), tras la correcta transmisión y recepción de un paquete USB, por lo menos en uno de los contactos no utilizados para el tráfico USB del módulo de tarjeta inteligente (10); y c) la señalización de actividad de las transacciones, basada en la señal de correcta transmisión (37), en un dispositivo (300) montado en el dispositivo de interfaz (40) y conectado por lo menos a uno de los contactos de la tarjeta inteligente que no se utilizan para conectar el módulo de tarjeta inteligente (10) al USB.
