Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To estimate the continuous value of a symbol by using viterbi algorithm. SOLUTION: An estimation process consists of a step for progressing the inside of a viterbi type trellis having MK states by making L-1 or less of k every stage, and a collection distance is given to the whole state of the whole stage. In the sample of a rank n, the whole transition reaching the various states of the current stage of the trellis is divided into M groups. Each group includes the whole transition produced from a fore stage related to one of the M symbols of the rank n-k. The transition giving a extreme collection distance is judged in the respective groups, the group giving the maximum or the minimum value out of the M extreme collection distances is determined, and a symbol reliable index is given.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for estimating the speed of movement of a mobile terminal. SOLUTION: In this method for estimating the speed of movement of the mobile terminal in a wireless communication system under calling with a station via a transmission channel, the estimation of the speed of movement is composed of an estimation of the impulse response of the transmission channel at a given instant, an estimation of the time derivative of this estimated impulse response, and a determination of a ratio comprising a denominator taking into account the energy of the estimated impulse response and a numerator taking into account the energy of the estimated time derivative of the estimated impulse response. Thus, the speed of a mobile telephone is estimated by determining the ratio of two energies related to the impulse response of the channel and the time derivative. The impulse response of the channel and the time derivative can be estimated by various methods.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance channel estimation so as to be equally applicable to learning estimation and blind estimation. SOLUTION: In a method for estimating an impulse response of an information transmission channel consisting of an information transmitter, an information receiver, and a propagation means resident between the transmitter and the receiver, a first estimation is made for an impulse response (H) of the channel by taking the entire channel into consideration, the first estimation is corrected by taking a fact that an impulse response of the transmitter and an impulse response of the receiver are known into consideration to acquire a final estimate (HF) resulting from correcting the impulse response of the channel.

Abstract: The method involves forming an estimate of the radio channel impulse response at a given instant and then forming the time derivative of this estimate. A relationship is determined that involves a denominator taking into account the energy of the estimated impulse response and a numerator taking into account the energy of the estimated time derivative of the impulse response.

Abstract: The pulse response estimation method has a first estimate (40) of the pulse response (H). The pulse response is corrected (41) for the first estimate independent of the information transmitted, using the transmitted and pulse response characteristics. A final corrected estimate (HF) of the channel response is then obtained.
