Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a normally-on bidirectional switch, which is lessened in power consumption in an off-state and in number of required elements by a method, wherein a switch in which two thyristors each related to positive half- wave and the negative half-wave of an alternating supply voltage are used is additionally provided. SOLUTION: A switch 3 is equipped with a first cathode-gate thyristor 39 which is connected in parallel between power supply terminals 32 and 33, and the anode of the thyristor 39 is connected to the first power supply terminal 33. Furthermore, the switch 3 is equipped with a second anode-gate thysristor 40, and the anode of the thyristor 40 is connected to the other power supply terminal 32. A gates Gc and Ga of the thyristors 39 and 40 is connected to the power supply terminal 33 through the same resistor R3 and the terminal 32 through a control switch 34. A protective diode 41 is interposed between the cathode of the thyristor 40 and the terminal 33. With this setup, a thyristor is not required to be used as an active power switch, and moreover the required high-voltage devices can be reduced in number.

Abstract: A switch-mode power conversion circuit is input from a rectified supply voltage across a capacitor (C1). The input circuit includes a rectifier (DB), power-factor correction circuit (10), and resistive element (R1) connected therebetween. The power supply converter (SPC) is input from capacitor C1, connected across the output of the power-factor correction circuit. Switching circuit S2, contg. e.g. a thyristor and/or triac, will short-circuit the surge resistor when the output voltage from the power-factor correction circuit exceeds a predetermined threshold. Opt. filter capacitor C2 may be connected across the power-factor correction circuit input.

Abstract: The bidirectional high-voltage switch (20) comprises an element (K) for switching a high AC voltage (Vac) connected to a load (2) in series. There is a control circuit (21) for rendering the switching element bistable and controllable by at most two pulsed signals (V on/V off). The circuit (21) contains two interrupters, which are triacs or thyristors. The first interrupter is connected in series with a capacitor and a first resistor between the terminals (8,9) receiving the high AC voltage (Vac), e.g. 220 V. The second interrupter is connected in series with a second resistor, and this series connection is connected in parallel with the series connection of the capacitor and the first interrupter. The frequency of pulsed signals is different from the frequency of high AC voltage of 50 Hz, and the pulse length is also different from the period. The capacitor is dimensioned so to store sufficient energy for a restart of the switching element (K) at each alteration of high AC voltage. The first interrupted is connected so to close by its closing the switching element (K), and the second interrupter is connected to close, by its closing, the switching element (K). The second interrupter discharges the capacitor, by its closure, to prevent an automatic restart of the switching element (K). In the first embodiment, the bidirectional switch has two inputs for the pulsed signals (V on/V off), and in the second embodiment the two interrupters are controlled by a unique pulsed signal (V on/off). Each interrupter is unidirectional and corresponds to a given conductivity direction. The unique control signal (V on/off) is synchronized with the high AC voltage. The pulses which appear during the first alternation close the bidirectional switch (20), and the pulses during the second alternation open the switch.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a normally-on bidirectional switch, including, in parallel between two power terminals of the switch, a first cathode-gate thyristor, the anode of which is connected to a first power terminal, a second anode-gate thyristor, the anode of which is connected to a second power terminal, and a resistor in series with a controllable switch, the midpoint of this series association being connected to the respective gates of the two thyristors. The present invention also provides a monolithic integration of the switch.

Abstract: The zero voltage command circuit has complementary transistors (Q1,Q2) connected across one of the triac thyristor pair triggers (G). A second triac connection (A1) connects the principal reference wire. The command grid transistor connection is connected to the thyristor second principle reference wire (A2). The command circuit is connected through a reference resistor (R2) to the triac trigger.
