    Abstract: Case 81033 Phytate-containing proteinaceous materials are treated with trivalent aluminum to alter the physical, chemical and metabolic functional and nutritional values of the protein. Protein derived from phytate-containing seed materials treated with trivalent aluminum possess improved solvent solubility, protease digestability, reduced thermophiles and trypsin inhibition reduction, low viscosity, trace mineral bioavailability, etc. without requiring phytate or phytic acid removal. The aluminum treatment may be conducted at numerous protein manufacturing stages with a wide variety of different materials. Phytate-containing proteins may be effectively extracted at acid pH levels in the presence of trivalent without sacrificing recoverable protein yields.

    Abstract: A nutritious vegetable seed solubles binder for animal feed blocks. The subject vegetable seed solubles contains about 80% by weight carbohydrate and up to about 24% protein on a dry substance basis. The new binder may be used as a complete or partial replacement for cane molasses as a binder in animal feed blocks, including those such as molasses/salt blocks, medicated feed blocks and high protein feed blocks. The subject vegetable seed solubles may also be combined with soybean hulls, bagasse or such similar material to make an ingredient which is then used to make animal feed blocks. The subject binder has proven especially useful for binding a high energy protein block. The resulting block is more easily formed, and the binder contributes a resilient flexible effect to the block. Such blocks not only weather better outdoors, but they also are consumed more uniformly over a longer period of time by the livestock. The presently preferred binder is condensed soybean solubles which is a by-product from the manufacture of soy protein concentrate by a hexane/aqueous alcohol extraction process. Other vegetable seed solubles binders can also be used, including the vegetable seed solubles from other soybean processes, cottonseed, rapeseed, sesame seed, safflower seed, sunflower seed, peanuts, maize, yellow field pea and horse bean. A typical feed block made according to the subject invention may include a combination of the following ingredients: dried steep liquor concentrate (DSLC), soybean meal, salt, condensed soybean solubles, animal fat, dicalcium phosphate, minerals, and vitamins.

A feed supplement for young domestic animals (particularly baby pigs), for alleviating iron deficiency anaemia and/or scours, consists of a staple dry, free-flowing mixture of water-dispersible mutually compatible ingredients comprising (a) an iron compound soluble in water, (b) an antibiotic, (c) essential minerals, (d) essential vitamins and (e) a sugar, and having a moisture content of less than 2%, dry substance weight basis. Preferably ingredient (a) is ferric ammonium citrate, ferrous sulphate or ferric pyrophosphate; (b) is neomycin or its sulphate, or oxytetracycline; (e) is dextrose, sucrose or lactose and (c) and (d) are vitamins A, B 12 , D 2 , E and K, niacin, riboflavin, pantothenic acid, thiamine, copper, phosphorus, calcium and other trace minerals. The supplement may also contain colourants, antioxidants, U.V. absorbers, preservatives, flavours, additional pharmaceuticals and enzymes. The supplements are administered dispersed in the animals drinking water.
