Abstract: PURPOSE: To obtain a package having an optimal mechanical characteristics in which the possibility of damaging a wire on a carrier is minimized at the time of molding the package by imparting a liquid crystal polymer in a polymer composition with a specified pressure-flow index. CONSTITUTION: The package has an opening for containing an integrated circuit composed of an encapsulating element imparted to a carrier (lead frame) which can be sealed by means of a sealer. The encapsulating element is imparted to a preliminarily formed metal strip serving as a carrier. The metal strip has thickness of several mm to the maximum and made of copper or an iron/ nickel alloy and has higher temperature resistance. Polymer in a polymer composition preferably comprises a unit having oxybenzoyl and biphenoxy and it is produced from terephthalic acid and/or isophthalic acid. That polymer has mean pressure-flow index (PFI) value of maximum 8.5g/10min. The PFI value is a measure of workability and measured under a constant pressure using a rheometer.

Abstract: PURPOSE: To obtain an orthopedic plastic brace for replacing or connecting fragment or part of human and animal bones, by at least partially forming the brace with a plastic which is liquid crystal polymer having anisotropy. CONSTITUTION: In this orthopedic brace, it is preferable that a plastic is a thermotropic liquid crystal polymer having anisotropy. The thermotropic liquid polymer has a characteristic suitable for bones by a proper improvement in quality. The liquid crystal polymer also has a high mechanical adaptability to a bone tissue. This is preferable with respect to the durability of a bone element in contact with the brace, and a longer time of stay of the orthopedic brace within a body causes less complication. By this, a transplant can be performed when a patient is young, who does not have to exchange the brace. Another advantage of the orthopedic brace is that it is easy to design and is flexible. The thermotropic liquid crystal polymer is made of a hard aromatic unit, that is a unit having one oxy-group and one carboxyl group, a unit having two oxy-groups, and that having two carboxyl groups.
