    Abstract: POLYURETHANE-BASED LACQUER BINDERS Single-component or two part polyurethane-based lacquers are prepared on the basis of a polymeric polyhydroxy compound having a high molecular weight in the range of 300 to 5000, such as poly(oxytetramethylene)glycol, a low molecular weight diol such as ethylene glycol, at least one isocyanate such as toluene diisocyanate and tris-(.beta.-hydroxypropyl)-iso-cyanurate or its ethoxylated derivative together with the customary accelerators, additives, solvents and the like used in lacquer manufacture. These lacquers exhibit exceptional hardness, high impact resistance, good adhesion to the substrate to which they are applied as well as corrosion resistance.

    Abstract: Cross-linked polyurethanes such as solid elastomeric polyurethanes or microcellular polyurethanes are prepared by reacting a polyisocyanate, one or more polyols and at least one trihydroxy compound in the presence of a catalyst using, as the hydroxyl compounds a low molecular weight diol, optionally a polymeric polyol and tris-(.beta.-hydroxypropyl)-isocyanurate or ethoxylated tris-(.beta.-hydroxypropyl)-isocyanurate all present in specific ranges of proportions. Use of the specific isocyanurates provides for better utilization and smaller quantities of the blowing agent used to make microcellular polyurethane foams.

    Abstract: The invention concerns the production of crosslinked polyurethane, obtained by reacting one or more polyols and at least one trifunctional crosslinking hydroxyl compound with a polyisocyanate. Products of improved quality, especially strength and heat resistance, are obtained by using tris( beta -hydroxypropyl)isocyanurate or its ethoxylated derivative as crosslinking compound and at least one polymeric polyol, with optionally also a low molecular weight diol, as the other hydroxy compounds. Elastomers as well as foams can be prepared. The process can be carried out by reacting all components together or by prereacting the polyisocyanate with part of the hydroxyl compounds and next adding the remainder.

    Abstract: The invention concerns a process for the preparation of tris-( beta -hydroxypropyl)-isocyanurate through reaction of propylene oxide with cyanuric acid. According to the invention the reaction is effected in a polyol, which is liquid under the process conditions and in which tris-( beta -hydroxypropyl)-isocyanurate is soluble or miscible, in the absence of a catalyst. Preferably a polyol is used which may be used in admixture with tris-( beta -hydroxypropyl)-isocyanurate in polyurethane synthesis. The advantages of the process are that the propoxylation does not proceed too far, and that there is no need to remove catalyst residues or solvent.

    Abstract: The invention disclosed is a process for the production of a cellular thermosetting foam provided on at least one surface with a reinforcing and fireresisting layer of particulate material. A foamable composition is distributed on a suitable substrate surface and a layer of particulate material is evenly distributed on the surface of said composition prior to complete curing. As inexpensive material such as sand or gravel may be used, the process is economic and easy to apply it can be used for the production of slabs of cellular plastic or of foam layers with a protective coating on e.g. wall panels, roofs, insulating material and the like.
