Abstract: The invention concerns the production of crosslinked polyurethane, obtained by reacting one or more polyols and at least one trifunctional crosslinking hydroxyl compound with a polyisocyanate. Products of improved quality, especially strength and heat resistance, are obtained by using tris( beta -hydroxypropyl)isocyanurate or its ethoxylated derivative as crosslinking compound and at least one polymeric polyol, with optionally also a low molecular weight diol, as the other hydroxy compounds. Elastomers as well as foams can be prepared. The process can be carried out by reacting all components together or by prereacting the polyisocyanate with part of the hydroxyl compounds and next adding the remainder.

Abstract: The invention concerns a process for the preparation of tris-( beta -hydroxypropyl)-isocyanurate through reaction of propylene oxide with cyanuric acid. According to the invention the reaction is effected in a polyol, which is liquid under the process conditions and in which tris-( beta -hydroxypropyl)-isocyanurate is soluble or miscible, in the absence of a catalyst. Preferably a polyol is used which may be used in admixture with tris-( beta -hydroxypropyl)-isocyanurate in polyurethane synthesis. The advantages of the process are that the propoxylation does not proceed too far, and that there is no need to remove catalyst residues or solvent.

Abstract: Polyurethane-based lacquers according to the invention are the reaction product of a polyisocyanate, at least one polymeric polyol having a molecular weight between 300 and 5000, at least tris-(N- beta -hydroxypropyl)-isocyanurate and/or the ethoxylated derivative thereof and optionally a diol having a molecular weight between 60 and 200. Either one-component ore two-component lacquers may be prepared. The coatings thus obtained combine a high impact resistance with a favorable hardness, corrosion resistance and substrate adhesion.
