The feedstock may be decanted oil from a cracking process containing spent silica-alumina cracking catalyst, and the oil may be seeded with particulate colloidal graphite just before being coked. Catalyst fines removed from the oil may be regenerated and recycled to the cracker, and the coke may be calcined, mixed with coal tar pitch, extruded and baked, before being graphitized.
